Brittany is a 26-year-old single Caucasian female. She is a high school graduate and completed one year of college. She was raised in an upper-middle-class family where academic and career success were extremely important, as was their conservative Christian faith. She was the third of five children. Brittany was a good student, hardworking, and self-critical. She was shy but had several friends and dated occasionally.

After graduation from high school, Brittany went out of state to college. She received passing grades her first year but began to hear voices telling her not to trust her classmates. She began to act in bizarre ways and withdrew from people. She often suspected that her classmates wanted to steal her work and that they would switch their exams with hers. She also started putting her food in a locked safe when she left her room to ensure that her roommates would not steal or poison her food. Due to this issue, she was hospitalized at age 19 for one month and dropped out of college. In the past seven years, she has been hospitalized 12 times. She has been unable to work.
