I’m working on a sociology discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
There has been an emerging trend of traditional high schools expelling disobedient youth and leaving them no choice but to attend non-traditional high schools or having to acquire a high school equivalency degree (or dropping out of school altogether).
Should schools have the right to expel these youth and ultimately strip them of the life options that come along with having a high school diploma?
Do these expulsions help lead to a labeling process where these youth acquire a lifetime label as a high-school dropout?
CSUN Sociology Social Movements and Social Theory Questions
Below are questions that ask us to wade through complex concepts including social movements and social theory, socialization and gender, group affiliation and group behavior.
Question 1 refers to Chapter 4.2 Theoretical Perspectives on Society (Links to an external site.)
Question 2 refers to Chapter 5.1 Theories of Self-Development (Links to an external site.)
Question 3 refers to Chapter 6.1 Types of Groups
Reading Reflections – Questions
Choose two of the three sociologists discussed in chapter 4.2 (Durkheim, Marx, Weber), and use their arguments to explain a current social event. This can be a recent major social movement, such as Black Lives Matter, or a current ongoing event like the invasion of Ukraine. Do their sociological theories hold up under modern scrutiny? Please cite the textbook to support your arguments.
Explain why it is important to conduct research using both male and female participants (in this example, only consider participants’ gender according to the gender binary, either male or female). What sociological topics might show (binary) gender difference? Provide some examples to illustrate your ideas, and cite the textbook to support your arguments.
The concept of bullying has been linked to in-group and out-groups. Define in-group and out-group dynamics. Then, describe an example where people were excluded or tormented due to these group dynamics. Please cite the textbook in your arguments, as well as historical or lived experiences to provide your example.CriteriaRatingsPtsThis criterion is linked to a Learning OutcomeOverall clarity and legibilityDid the student answer the questions in a clear and thoughtful manner?5 pts

40-38 points
More depth/information is required for the context and importance, otherwise the study detail will be unclear. There is no search history information supplied. |
83-76 points
There is a review of important theoretical literature, however there is limited integration of research into problem-related ideas. The review is just partly focused and arranged. There is research that both supports and opposes. A summary of the material given is provided. The conclusion may or may not include a biblical integration. |
52-49 points
The content is somewhat ordered, but there is no discernible organization. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on may sometimes distract from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
Poor Quality

37-1 points
The context and/or importance are lacking. There is no search history information supplied. |
75-1 points
There has been an examination of relevant theoretical literature, but still no research concerning problem-related concepts has been synthesized. The review is just somewhat focused and organized. The provided overview of content does not include any supporting or opposing research. The conclusion has no scriptural references. |
48-1 points
There is no logical or apparent organizational structure. There is no discernible logical sequence. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on often detracts from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
