PRESS RELEASE
NJ mayor sues his state over bail reform
The mayor of Middletown, Tony Perry, is fighting against his state, blaming the bail laws in place for the spike in car thefts within the state. Most of these thefts involve brazen thieves entering suburban homes and driving away with family cars and other items.
As the city’s leader and the closest to the citizens, residents must understand the actions of their mayor, the services he is providing, and the importance of citizens’ active involvement in these activities.
The mayor of Middletown, New Jersey, announced that he would be suing the state regarding the bail laws in the state. The mayor blames the bail reform policy in the state for the increase in car thefts. The mayor claims that thousands of stolen cars end up in chop shops or shipped overseas. Therefore, Mayor Tony Perry is requesting harsher sentences and charges to deter crime in the state.
Based on Monmouth County’s crime data, in 2017, there were less than 140 car thefts within the county. However, with the introduction of New Jersey’s bail laws, there was more than a 300% theft rise within five years in the state.
This press release will be released to the Middletown Sun and NJ.com. Middletown Sun is a local newspaper for Middletown and Central Jersey while NJ.com is for all of New Jersey.
