Evidence Based Practices to Guide Clinical Practices
The interrelationship between research, theory, and Evidence based practice
Evidenced based practice as a guide in clinical nursing practices is usually an attempt geared towards answering the clinical questions through the process of evaluating the already existing evidence. A systematic search strategy is usually the starting point of the evidence obtained from theories, clinical literature and research coupled with clinical knowledge from the opinion of experts in the field of medicine and medical issues. Evidence based practice is usually a way through which medical practitioners carry out a combination of clinical experience and ethics, client preferences and culture to guide with well researched interventions geared towards informing the delivery of treatments and other support services.
An interrelationship between research, theory and evidence based practice exist in the sense that the use of research, theory, evidence-based practice and quality improvement has increased dramatically in the professional manuscripts and discourses of the health related literature. The main research objectives, around which all the other objectives revolve, is the production of new knowledge or adding to the body of knowledge already in existence in a specific area of science. This might be knowledge that is applicable directly for practices or that which requires verification further before application (Sampson et al., 2017). The research process has been well highlighted in the literature. Science-based methods of research are based on a research problem for instance in the case of evidence based practice has a research problem of trying to make the treatment process patient-centered, which is used to make a research protocol formal in order to offer answers to these research question. Research having been defined as the systematic inquiry geared towards the generation of virgin knowledge and refining or validating the knowledge already in existence in regards to a specific subject, theorizing on the other hand is the systematization and formulation of findings of a research and knowledge so that certain phenomenon or problem methodically can be defined. Through this procedure, the linked concepts, logics, propositions and statements are orchestrated to explain, control, predict or describe the phenomenon. Evidence based practice being an endeavor to offer answers to clinical questions through evaluation of the evidence already in existence; the clinician ensures application of the most available reliable evidence in order to foster the delivery of the necessary care mechanisms under all conditions. This evidence can only be available through research and the theorizing of the research findings in order to come up with credible evidence. Evidence based practice related to theory and research in the sense that science-based evidence is presumed a main part of the overall form of the evidence based practice. Findings from research need to be presented therefore in the configuration of asserted hypotheses and theories in quantitative and qualitative research perspectives. Findings and knowledge from research echo the medicine effective substance, which must be configured keenly in order to be used in medical practice effectively. Accordingly, theorizing and theory are presumed the focal point of every scientific discipline. Theory always comes before research and research is essential in bringing the evidence required in the evidence based practice in clinical nursing practices.
Research questions, sampling and sampling size designs, hypothesis, data collection methods, and findings from each study.
Research questions are the questions that a study or research aims to answer. They help in establish whether the research actually met the objectives that it was meant for (Kozleski, 2017). Evidence based practice uses the Patient Intervention Comparison Outcomes to generate the research questions. For evidence based practice includes: Does the use of sitters prevent hospitalized elderly patients from falling? How effective is the intervention? How would the problem be described or a group of patients similar to mine? What is the main of the intervention and what prognostic factor or exposure am I considering? Is there an alternative to compare with the intervention?
Sampling is done using the simple random sampling where everybody in the health care center has equal opportunity of being selected for the study. In this case the population to be sampled is the patients in the health care center and the medical staff such as the nurses and the clinical officers. The sample size is usually the number of objects that are to be included in the study. The sample size influences the precision of the estimates and the generalizability of the study findings. The sample was 10% of the population of patients and the medical staff mainly targeting the nurses and the clinical officers. The hypothesis of the study was to assess whether evidence based practice is actually necessary in improving the treatment outcome of patients. If evidence based practice affects the patient treatment outcome, then alternative hypothesis will be accepted and if there is no effect of evidence based practice on patients’ treatment outcome, then null hypothesis is accepted (Baroni et al., 2020). Data collection will be done using survey and semi structured questionnaires that were administered to the selected patients and the medical staff. The patients were helped in understanding the questions and gave their views concerning different issues that were to be covered by the evidence based practice. The study found out that evidence base practices often foster improved patient treatment and care outcome. Aspects of evidence based practice such as making the treatment process patient centered by including the views of the patients in the treatment process often reduced the span which patients stayed in the health care centers for treatment and recuperation.
Goals, health outcomes, and implementation strategies in the healthcare setting
The goals of evidence based practice study included the utilization of the current knowledge and the knowledge that has been obtained through the research study to bring out a connection between that knowledge and the clinical expertise and the patients’ preference to improve and standardize care processes ultimately foster patient outcomes. The health outcomes of the study were the fact that the health care center was able to reduce the demand for health care resources by the patients, the most effective care is accorded to the patients because the health care center has been able to unearth the challenges and incorporate the views of the patients. Evidence based practices also help the nurses in ensuring that their interventions are practical and also in providing the highest quality and most cost-efficient patient care possible. There has also been a reduction of illogical care variations which has always been the reason behind the production of health care services which are unpredictable. This is usually fostered by the fact that evidence based practice follows five distinct steps namely; asking which means asking the patients and the other staff in the health care center about the challenges that the face in their daily works and to the patients the challenges they encounter while at the health care center. This is followed by acquiring the necessary knowledge and information that will enable in dealing with the challenges that were unearthed during the first step. After acquiring this information and knowledge, then the third step is appraising to make sure the challenges mentioned are actually existing and to compare the require intervention with the available resources so that the whole process can be a success. Then application of the evidence based practices from the acquired information coupled with assessment to ensure the practices and the related programs are working as intended.
The implementation strategies included; the understanding of the data collected from the sample that was selected for the study so that you come up with effective and efficient inferences concerning that data (Tucker et al., 2019). This strategy is followed by considering the amount of resources available that can make sure the programs are implemented correctly and successfully. The other strategy is ensuring that the evidence based practice has patient-centered goals so that the whole process can be acceptable by the patients and also to meet the essence that it was implemented for. Also, ensure that the preferences of the health care center are being covered by the practices so that the center can not only concentrate on the patients’ needs but also on the needs of the other actors and the health care center at large this is because, health care providers’ personal preferences often determine whether an organization will adopt a new practice or not in this case adoption of evidence based practice in clinical nursing practices.
Credibility of the sources and the research/researchers findings
The sources used in the study were primary therefore credible in that it involve real human beings who are at the heart of all clinical practices. The use of patients in the study means that the study got a glimpse of the reality in the health care centers and the patients gave out their real views on the matters they see need to be addressed (Noble et al., 2019). The findings of the research were also credible because using the results that showed evidence based practice improves the patients’ treatment outcome also when used as a treatment group and having a control group shows that the same and as such makes the research findings credible.
