Executive summary
Amazon supply chain management strategies are in line with its strategies to ensure it maintains and leverages its position from a competitive advantaged point. Amazon had to ensure that it found a way to facilitate faster delivery of items from manufacturers to their consumers by collaborating with other firms that had a better understanding and networks for delivery services.
Amazon then had to collaborate with firms such as the U.S. Postal service as well as FedEx to ensure items were accurately delivered. Amazon had initially been losing in terms of funds and client base hence needed to make adjustments in its service delivery.
Introduction
A GSCM stands for Green Supply Chain Management which is coordination and subsequent management of complex networks for delivering products to its customers. A GSCM mainly strives to reduce the impacts of the environment by focusing on supply chain management.
The environment became a crucial part of a business that was integrated into the overall operations of firms hence becoming a consideration point to gain a competitive advantage and gaining benefits from a business. The GSCM mainly handles logistical requirements, distribution, and transportation.
This paper seeks to identify any issues that were experienced by Amazon that the firm needed to find collaborating firms to assist which logistical issues as well as shedding a light on partners that were considered when identifying GSCM partner (“Analysis of Amazon’s supply chain management practices”, (n.d.)).
Amazon collaboration issues
Amazon’s challenges were slowly catching up to the firm. Amazon was facing challenges delivering to its customers. Amazon is the world’s largest online retailer store and Walmart is posing a level of competitiveness trying to displace Amazon from its position. It was thought that Amazon could not deliver simplicity. As the firm slowly was losing its customers, it was finding trouble trying to implement a fast and healthy dose of one-stop shopping (Berman, 2019).
Amazon had to waive its shipping costs as a way to get more sales compared to its competitor Walmart. Amazon’s woes then became finding a worth collaborating company to handle shipping. Amazon had to leverage its position to find a worthy collaborator. Amazon then got the U.S Postal service to deliver packages to its clients. Amazon had still not found a way to handle domestic freight of packages accurately. This increased pressure on Amazon to improve its service delivery (Berman, 2019).
Amazon collaborative choices for GSCM
Facing the logistical issue, Amazon had to make cutbacks and innovate new ideas to ensure seamless service delivery of products to their rightful owner. Amazon bought start-up companies to handle the logistical nightmare. Kiva system was procured to make drones to deliver packages as they would land onto client roofs and backyards as they made deliveries.
This helped release off pressure from the issues that greatly affected the firm. Similarly, Amazon leveraged its position and found firms that offer the service such as FedEx and the U.S Postal service. Such firms have better management of existing delivery routes hence packages would efficiently and accurately get to their intended customers.
With these strategies in place, Amazon’s orders were indicated to greatly increase as there were faster, easier and efficient ways to get orders around the globe (Schuman, 2016).
Conclusion
Amazon needs to embrace more and newer technology-based approaches to handle their supply chain management. From automated strategies and approaches, products would easily get from the manufacturers to the consumers in good time.
Technological strategies would include the incorporation of robots and drones to facilitate the delivery of items right to the client’s doorstep. Technology-based solutions ensure the service is easy, and accuracy is as well ensured. Funds would then be freed from contracting human delivery services and be plowed into technology development of better ways to serve their clients (Berman, 2019).
