Consider the following:

• How does BT Agile development contribute to competitive advantage?  Which force/forces does it impact and why?
• Which primary or support activities in Porter’s “Value Chain” (Chapter 7, Bourgeois, 2014) are impacted by BT’s implementation of an agile development process and what benefit (if any) does Agile bring to these activities?

3. Strategic decision making and management. Discussion board.

In this question, you will consider the main risks and rewards of international business for two firms. In the case of a large established domestic firm which of the potential rewards is greatest (new customers, lower costs, and diversification of markets) and which risk is greatest (political, economic, cultural)? In the case of a new entrepreneurial firm, which risks and rewards are greatest? Evaluate the reasons why the risks and rewards may (or may not) be different for the two types of firms.

4. STRATEGIC DECISION MAKING AND MANAGEMENT. Written Assignment.

After reading the case “Compsis at a Crossroads,” consider the international position of the firm. Analyze the U.S. market and, using specifics from the case study, explain each of the four components of the Diamond Model and then apply them to the Compsis. Based on your analysis of this model, select and justify your choice for the optimal international business strategy for the firm. Then, select and justify the best market entry option for Compsis to implement possible US expansion.

Drawing on the readings and on your personal experience, how can HR Managers help raise the cultural intelligence of an organization.  Do you think that HR bears the brunt of this task or are there other offices within an organization that should be sharing in this goal?  How can Human Resources help to promote an environment that is welcoming, respectful, and inclusive?

You have been hired by a company to help them diversify their workforce — you choose the type of company.   Write a proposal to present to the Senior Management staff that addresses how to begin this diversification.  Assume the business that has hired you is committed to training and education of people who have the talent, but may need some professional development, coaching, mentoring, etc.

The CEO and Vice President for Human Resources have met with you and made it clear that diversity of all types is important, including cultural, gender and sexual orientation; they believe in inclusivity in the broadest of terms.

This company is looking for a proposal that is integrated into all key functions of the organization, including, Recruitment and Selection; Training and Development; Pay and Incentives; Performance Management and Appraisal; and anything else appropriate to the type of organization you choose.

You should consider the geographic region where the company is located and the demographics of the people who live nearby.  Along with proposal include recommendations for policies and procedures that need to be considered as part of this effort.

The choice of business is yours; your paper should include start with a brief description of the business and where it is located.

7. HR. Portfolio Activity.

Part I

During this assignment, you will create a carefully produced, professional resume that you may use to apply for employment in the future.

• If you already have a resume, you are still required to produce a new one a template/layout provided from the resource websites below.  You are free to use the information from your existing resume, but you should produce a new one with updated information for this assignment
• The goal is to create a new resume that now incorporates your MBA coursework and skills you have acquired since beginning your program of study.
• I recommend you have someone else review your resume prior to submitting the final draft for grading.  This can be either a classmate, family or friend or current co-worker.

Style Guidelines

• Use 10pt or 12pt fonts, generally Times New Roman or Arial are standard. Your name should be larger font size and bold to stand out
• Your resume MUST fit properly on one or two pages (not including reference sheet).  If your resume is only slightly longer than one page, you will need to work on formatting to try and make it fit on a single sheet.
• Use BOLD or ITALIC styles for headings, etc. as needed.
• Use BULLETS for point form information.
• Make sure line spacing and indents are consistent throughout your documents.

Part II

The second part of this activity will be to include a critical self-reflection on the process of writing your resume.  Resume writing is an activity that requires us to think broadly about our accomplishments, successes, and things that didn’t go well.   It can be an emotional journey for some.

As you take stock of where you are right now, what did engage in the activity bring up for you?  Did writing your resume illuminate any successes that you needed to highlight?  Did it make clear gaps that you feel you need to fill before completing your program?  Was this activity helpful to you? Why or why not?

The critical reflection should be about a page in length.

Read the article  Google Execs Have Ideas on How to Run Your Business   and discuss the following topics:

• A well-known Google’s successful formula is to release 20% of its employees’ time to work on anything they want.  When applying this approach to a project, do you think that the absence of a structured decision-making process, driven by the project manager, jeopardizes the delivery on cost, on time, and on the quality of the project? Explain why or why not.
• The article addresses the subject of remote working and stresses Google’s view on not letting people work from home. Do you agree or disagree that a project team could see in this approach as a lack of trust? Explain your reasoning.

9. MANAGING PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS. Written Assignment.

The Balanced Scorecard is a control tool created in the early 1990s and aimed at aligning an organization’s performance with its strategic objectives. This tool, widely used in business, government and non-profit organizations, provides an overall view of performance through four main aspects: finance, innovation and learning, internal business, and customers. Likewise, the Balanced Scorecard is used as a method of controlling project performance.

For this paper, you will apply a Balanced Scorecard approach to the project plan developed during the Group Activity.  Using the four perspectives outlined in the article “Align project management with organizational strategy” apply each perspective the project that was outlined in your group’s project plan. You should also download this balanced scorecard for a visual example:  Regional Airline Balanced Scorecard (Download the pdf).

• Based on the overall goals of the organization (you are free to make some assumptions given the information you have), as well as those of the project, identify some specific objectives for each of the categories of the Balanced Scorecard (Employee Growth and Learning, Internal Processes, Customer Satisfaction, and Financial.)
• Which are the relationships among the specific objectives of the project identified? (See the Regional Airline Balanced Scorecard Simplified Strategy Map)
• Identify the specific performance measures for each area that will illustrate the success of the project
• What are the targets for these performance measures—how will you know when the performance measures have been reached?
• Which specific initiatives and actions, by the organization, will contribute to the attainment of the targets?

Again, assumptions are allowed just be sure to articulate them in the paper.

• One action identified for each of the actions established. Actions have a clear contribution to the targets established and are realistic for the project constraints given. Actions are reasoned and well explained.
• Writing is clear, concise and professional. The writing follows a logical flow. No spelling or grammatical errors are present.
• All resources and references are correctly cited using APA style. / References were not required.

10. Managing projects and programs. Portfolio Assignment.

During this course, you have learned about concepts related to a project life cycle.  In unit 1 the importance of project management was analyzed. In unit 2, the key elements of the initiation phase were discussed including stakeholders and cultural diversity management.

During the units 3, 4 & 5 the planning phase of a project was studied and a project simulation was conducted. Unit 6, reviewed the constraints and challenges of executing projects while unit 7 addressed different ways of controlling projects. Finally, unit 8 covered the steps to successfully close a project and lessons learned.

Based on what you’ve learned in this course, please reflect on the aspects of project management you feel can be applied to your career after the completion of your MBA in UoPeople.   You are asked to write a 2–3-page critical reflection that addressed your career plan during the next 10-years using project management (life cycle phases and knowledge areas) to inform where you’re headed.
