OPTION 1: Imagine counseling a couple in which the wife leaves her husband for another man. Subsequently, the couple divorces. Through the new relationship she contracts HIV and her boyfriend dies about one year later. As a result of all these events, the wife starts seeing you again. You learn about her HIV diagnosis and are surprised to learn that she is seeing and dating her ex-husband again. She states that both of them want to start working with you as a couple. Discuss what responsibilities you have in working with the couple. Discuss your thoughts about this case and what things you need to consider going forward with the couple and any biblical worldview issues that may be involved. Describe what actions you would take.

OPTION 2: Imagine that you are a counselor at a clinic in which you must take the referrals you are given. You learn that later in the week you are scheduled to see a sex offender who was arrested for taking sexual liberties with a minor, sexual molestation, and exhibitionism. The court referred him to the clinic for counseling while he is going through litigation. Discuss what thoughts and feelings you have about someone who has committed such crimes. Describe how you might counsel this individual.

OPTION 3: Imagine a couple in which one spouse is involved in community theater. The acting spouse chooses a role that requires physically intimate contact with another actor of the opposite sex. In this case, the play has a positive moral message and the character role shows a very healthy marital relationship. The actor’s spouse is deeply hurt by the spouse’s choice to take the role. He does not want his spouse to be physically intimate with another person even if it is only acting. In the past, the couple had discussed the possibility of the acting spouse being offered such a role. As a result of their discussion, the acting spouse said s/he would not take such a role since the other was uncomfortable with it. At the same time, the non-acting spouse stated that s/he would never stand between the other and a potential role. Over the course of their marriage, many experiences happened and the non-acting spouse hurt the other in significant ways.

Based on this vignette, describe the issues and potential outcomes, if any, that might occur for each spouse and their relationship if the acting spouse takes the role and if the acting spouse doesn’t take the role. Choose the non-acting spouse, the acting spouse, or the couple, and describe how you would help with the afflicted outcomes. Briefly describe your thoughts about a spouse being physically intimate and/or even nude within the context of acting.

OPTION 4: Consider the following situations: a Christian single posing nude for a painting or sculpture, a couple sharing nude or partially nude pictures of themselves while dating, a wife posing nude to make professional photographs for her husband, a Christian couple videotaping their sexual encounters and photographing each other in the nude for personal use, and/or texting nude pictures of themselves to each other. Describe your thoughts about these behaviors and any potential implications associated with them. Discuss how you relate all of this to a biblical worldview.
