The strategic management process is key the leadership of a company. Discuss what is involved in the leadership of this process and how it differs from the day-to-day management of the company.

#2-The strategic management process is based on the big picture, long term decisions whereas the day-to day management of the company is more short term, and “right now” versus long term. Part of the strategic management process is strategic competitiveness, which is achieved by creating a value-creating strategy with the goal of gaining competitive advantage.
In the text book, the example of McDonald’s is used, an organization that mastered gaining competitive advantage. When strategizing about strategies, it is important to think outside of the box and come up with innovative ideas.
McDonald’s for example came up with their McCafe line, which was incredibly successful, and incredibly innovative who would have thought that a burger and fries place will have several different options for café drinks?
In some countries, such as Germany where I am from, McDonald’s serves several different options of cakes and pastries and people often go there on Sundays as regular stores are closed on Sundays to pick up cakes or pastries for afternoon coffee, which is specific to the culture.

#3 Strategic management in leadership is an important part of the role you play as a leader and helps maintain as much control as possible over expected situations. I supervise medical service assistants that schedule appointments at the VA.
Since COVID-19 everything has moved into a flexible state; appointments are being canceled and rescheduled to phone or video appointments and every service is managing this task differently. Understanding that I as a leader has to prepare the proper questions for each service / provider to get the actual flow of how they want to manage these tasks.
Due to lower traffic in the clinics our staff has to be re purposed to other areas that are in need. The work load that we manage has to be evaluated and I have to choose which individuals are proper for the type of work that needs to be done, choose who will be re purposed in other areas and identify how the work load will increase.
My focus is to not re purpose too many of my MSA’s so that we come up short when work load changes and increases and definitely don’t want the people that are staying back to get too much work put on their plate because it is a stressful time dealing with the unknown.
Day to day things change and we have to think outside the box in order to capture what our capabilities are and how we will proceed without wasting too much time trying to figure it out.
