The proposal is all about forward thinking, speculating on what the future holds. Of course, this will require making use of all the critical thinking, self-awareness, attention to the small details, and composition skills we’ve practice for the entire course, and in Composition I before it.
Your proposal is going to focus around the future of your chosen topic: you will propose why your subject deserves to be respected, revered for all time; if your subject is already revered and respected, propose why it will continue to be, or the why /how it should be positioned to remain influential for all time. You’ll have to really look at the big picture, to see the forest for the trees (or utilize critical and abstract thinking) but you should be more than prepared for this challenge. |
The Proposal
ESSAY 4: THE PROPOSAL
Requirements
MLA 8 Format Times New Roman font, in 12 point Double spaced Numbered pages Titled 8-10 pages Ten (10) credible or academic sources Annotated Bibliography
Scope of Work
The scope of this essay is massive. Not only do you have to propose a path into the future for your subject, but you’ll have to understand the past of your subject, the genre it comes from, the time and place, how history regards it, how the future regards it….wow, I got lost myself in that sentence. Speculating what the Future Holds
Not only that, you’re going to have to incorporate ten outside, credible sources upon which your proposal will be supported, and craft an annotated bibliography. Also, make sure you’re in MLA 8, and making use of all the composition techniques you’ve studied and learned in the past: the strong thesis, the rhetorical techniques, introductions that hook, conclusions that extrapolate into the bigger picture…phew. It’s not going to be easy, but, then again, you’ve got all the tools and talent necessary to knock this one out of the park. I promise you, this essay is more afraid of you than you are of it. Now, get in there and take that blank page out one line at a time. An “A” level paper will incorporate everything we’ve learned, demonstrate that the author truly understands all these concepts, and truly presenting a solid proposal, that well supported. A “C” level paper will display minimal competence with composition concepts, present a floundering but generally sound proposal, and meet all of the requirements for the essay and the annotated bibliography. |
