This is where you provide an introductory paragraph. Introduce your paper in a scholarly way. Provide at least 4-5 sentences here that give an introduction to your proposal. Read the Single Subject Design journal article (Reddy and colleagues, 2014) that I posted for you in the unit 5 folder. Look at the very first page: p. 373. The introductory info provided on this page is a great example of how your introduction should look. Use this as a guide to write your intro section.
Sample
Your response should describe the sample (YOU are the sample and must minimally present information about your age, gender, race, and any other aspects that may be relevant to this study).
Problem
In this section you will describe the problem you want to address in as much detail as you can. Began this section by clearly stating: “The problem is___.” Beginning this way lets me know that you are fully aware of what the problem is.
Consequences of the problem
Here, you will share two consequences of the problem and you will support your claims with scholarly peer-reviewed references. You also need to include how the problem affects some aspect(s) of your life.
Intervention
When will you do the intervention (be specific with the dates) and what will it consist of? You must be very specific in describing your intervention. Your intervention must be realistic for you to accomplish. For example, if you are going to attempt to lose 5 pounds this semester and your intervention will be to do a net calorie intake of 1500 calories/day, you might say that you will track your caloric intake and output with the My Fitness Pal app and document all food/drink you consume and all exercise you engage in.
Evidence to Support the Intervention
What scholarly evidence is there in the literature to support the effectiveness of this intervention in addressing this problem? Specifically, find a study that implemented the same intervention that you want to implement. OR, find a study based on an intervention that you are interested in and consider applying that same intervention on yourself. You must cite at least two peer reviewed articles that provide support for your intervention in addressing the problem of interest. Bottom line***Find 2 peer-reviewed studies that implemented the same or a similar intervention that you want to use on yourself.
Measurement
Instrument identification
How will you measure your progress? That is, what instrument (survey, scale, OR questionnaire -these words all mean instrument) will you use to measure the effectiveness of your intervention? Specifically, from the 2-peer reviewed studies that you just wrote about in the Evidence to Support the Intervention section, how did the authors of those 2 studies measure progress? What is the range of scores for the instrument you are using?
What are the psychometric properties of your instrument? Psychometric properties refer to the validity and reliability of the measurement tool. Before being able to state that a questionnaire has excellent psychometric properties, meaning a scale is both reliable and valid, it must be evaluated extensively.
Go to the back of your textbook and locate all areas where it mentions validity and reliability and read those sections. Make sure you read the Single Subject Design journal article (Reddy and colleagues, 2014) that I posted for you in the unit 5 folder. The article is a report of a single subject design. Consider locating additional single subject designs on your intervention of interest.
Measurement points
When will you measure your progress? Specifically, from the 2-peer reviewed studies that you just wrote about in the Evidence to Support the Intervention section, how did the authors of those studies measure progress? When did they measure progress? Be as specific as possible and keep in mind that you must have at least 7 data points (*2 baseline data points before the intervention begins; 4 intervention data points; 1 post intervention data point=7 data points) as noted above.
Summary statement of the intervention
The final statement in your paper must consist of an overall objective about what you plan to accomplish with this single subject design. The statement must be written using the following language: Who will do what by what date by doing what as measured by what. Example: I will lose 10 pounds by December 1, 2021, by tracking my daily net caloric intake using the My Fitness Pal app as measured by the weight on my scale at home.
Single Subject Design (SSD) Proposal Assignment
For this assignment, you must carry out an intervention aimed at addressing some component of your own self-care. The intervention must consist of something you are not currently doing and last at least 4 weeks. For this assignment, you must conduct at least two baseline measurements prior to beginning the intervention, one measurement each week you are conducting the intervention, and a final measurement at least three days after the intervention ends.
Examples of self-care interventions include weight loss programs, meditating, stopping a destructive activity (smoking, compulsive shopping, snacking, alcohol/drug use, biting your nails, cursing, etc.) and increasing productive activities (sleep, exercise, time with family, alone time, time with pets, attendance at 12-step meetings, etc.).
The assignment consists of two parts: 1) the 3 – 5 page proposal (which the instructor must approve prior to beginning your SSD) and 2) the 5 – 7 page final report. Each must be written using APA style, appropriate grammar, and punctuation. Since you are now seniors in the BSW program, the standards are higher and you are expected to write in a manner that reflects your status as a senior in the BSW program. You MUST use at least Level 1 APA style headings to delineate the different sections of your paper. Failure to do so will result in 10 points being taken off the grade for each of the papers.

There is a review of important theoretical literature, however there is limited integration of research into problem-related ideas. The review is just partly focused and arranged. There is research that both supports and opposes. A summary of the material given is provided. The conclusion may or may not include a biblical integration. |
