The developments in technology are invaluable resources that help law enforcement officer in performance of their duties, nonetheless, technologies such as social media platforms have constructive and destructive effects.
Proposed Thesis Statement:
Due to the nature of their work, law enforcement officers should have strict social media use policies because of the risk of sharing important law enforcement information with criminals and stand the risk of portraying a bad image of law enforcement to leaders and community members.

The purpose of this article is to examine the growing interest of UK police officers’ use of social media as a medium for public engagement. The paper is based on the political agenda context that is aimed at improving the public’s perception of the police’s ability to reduce crime. This article investigates how successfully the police service, which is a hierarchal organization, is using social media to successfully engage groups. This article concludes that there are significant constraints to what the police can share on social media because of the culture of the police service. This article is important in revealing the importance of controlling law enforcement social media use.

The summarized articles above are consistent in showing that social media is a beneficial tool for law enforcement officers. It is a great platform for sharing important information on law and order and can also be used as a source of information. However, there are some significant challenges in the use of social media by law enforcement officers such as the risk of sharing information that will compromise criminal cases and the risking of the lives of the law enforcement officers. Based on this information, it is important to encourage the use of social media in law enforcement agencies, but with significant control to avoid the risks of social media.
