Briefly discuss your shopping experience today compared to a decade ago.
Do you shop online today? How much, and for what products?
Should all stores offer an online shopping option? Explain your answer.
How does a hybrid option of shopping in-store and online create value for the customer?
What is one virtual advertising method that captures your attention? Do you think it is an effective method?
Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 2 of your fellow classmates with at least a 100-word reply about their Primary Task Response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening. To help you with your discussion, please consider the following questions:
What did you learn from your classmate’s posting?
What additional questions do you have after reading the posting?
What clarification do you need regarding the posting?
What differences or similarities do you see between your posting and other classmates’ postings?
this is student one. Hall:I really hate to give up my age but a decade ago I was 24. I wasn’t doing much shopping then but if I was shopping, I certainly wasn’t doing any online shopping. I do remember around 2005 I did pretty much commit to an apartment online but in my defense, I was out the country and looking for a place to stay when I got back home. It was a new state for me so I didn’t have a lot of background on the different areas the only thing I had to go on is a word-of-mouth reference that it was a nice area, but I did realize then that nice to someone isn’t not nice to everyone.
Needless to say my car got stolen in that area. Today is a huge difference for me. I would say I do at least 85% if not more of my shopping online. I buy just about everything including shoes, clothes, household supplies and appliances online pretty much anything other than food. I tried to shop for food online at Walmart, but I noticed that they only had limited brands and the prices was slightly higher. Over all small selection of a variety of foods. I occasionally buy some dry foods like cookies crackers online but only if I’m happened to be buying other items need food with know intention of going outside the house no time soon. at one point of my life I did everything from home and can spend about two weeks at home without going out because worked and volunteered from home.
I do most of my online shopping at amazon. I remember when I was only able to get school books on amazon. Now it seems like there is no limit to what they sell. I find myself in local stores comparing the prices on amazon from my phone. To me one of the best values for the hybrid option is the option to return in stores. One of the most inconvenient issues with online shopping is when you have to return an item. Even in department stores for some reason all sizes aren’t made equal, but you do have the option to try the item on so sometime buying online result in a return.
Whether you can’t fit the item, or you had a change of mind, item not as described, or for whatever reason you want to return an item the hybrid stores have benefits. One virtual advertisement that capture my attention is coupons. While on social media seeing ads with 40% or any percentage of entire purchase usually grab my attention and usual get me to got to the site and at a minimum “online window shop” I can admit that I a dedicated online shopper I think mainly because I’m a homebody and I noticed if I go inside the store I’m likely to buy other things that I don’t intend on buying.
student two jones: Today’s shopping experience is different than it has ever been thanks to technology. This is a negative and positive trend in my opinion. My favorite online shopping is when my family orders groceries online. It’s so convenient because it’s a 2-hour delivery. We usually order from Kroger grocery store and pay a small monthly fee for delivery. I hate going grocery shopping and I usually forget items and when we order groceries, we usually get everything we needed.
The cons would be that we don’t always get the items we would have wanted like non bruised apples or bananas, but that’s not the end of the world for us. 10 years ago, I would never have thought about having groceries delivered from ordering on an app. The last decade ushered in the rise of the direct-to-consumer brand and companies built nearly entirely on social media. Offline, stores began experimenting with new forms of tech to lure shoppers back into brick-and-mortar spaces as foot traffic declined and locations shuttered in the face of the retail apocalypse.
(Biron B, 2019) This is why I believe there is a pro and con to online shopping. It’s a huge growing industry but it is killing off companies who can’t compete with their online competitors. The convenience of online shopping is the reason I probably by something online for my family every week. I enjoy the that I am also able to choose to go to the store where I online shop at. This is important for me as well because my family is Vegetarian and Gluten free. This makes planning meals and feeding every difficult at times, but we have found a store that offers all our needs. A virtual advertising, I notice a lot is while I am on a website, whether it be shopping or researching I see adds for items that I was looking for on a different website or platform. Some people see this as us as users are being tracked but really the user probably agreed for their information to be shared.
Cookies can also identify you and track your browsing activity across a website. This isn’t necessarily a big problem – a website might want to know what pages users visit so it can tweak the user experience. What’s really pernicious are third-party cookies.
