Making an outline for the following prompt the advertisement I choose is Coca Cola 1971 and Coca Cola 2011
there are more detail in the file below Prompt: Perform a semiotic analysis of two print advertisements (one old and one new) from the same company and compare and contrast the methods used for promoting their product by playing on the American Dream of acquiring a specific social status of success.
Choose 3 points of comparison you want to examine and build each of your 3 body paragraphs on. These will be your topic sentences and will support the central idea (your thesis) in your essay. You will use the point by point to organize your essay.
Consider the following questions as points of comparison and address them in your essay: What is the American Dream defined by Jack Solomon in the article, “Masters of Desire: The Culture of American Advertising”
How is the American Dream paradoxical? How do these advertisements sell the American Dream through their design and marketing strategies? If they are not selling the American Dream, are they redefining it? In other words, are they changing our traditional ideas, attitudes, values, and beliefs of success and redefining them? (Please remember to capitalize American Dream in your papers because it is a proper noun.)
Or, do they reinforce existing social, political, and economic structures (Solomon)? If so, make an argument explaining how they do this.Do these advertisements use traditional stereotypes or break them? If so, for what purpose?
Do these advertisements evoke a common status symbol to appeal to consumers? If so, how do they do this and why? How do semiotics contribute to the packaging designs of the products? (Use image analysis questions on pages 80-83 in our PDF textbook to complete this analysis.)
You must establish the relationship between the advertisements by comparing/contrasting them. Do not choose your advertisements randomly or simply describe them in detail one after the other. They must be compared/ contrasted.
Make sure your paper has a clear thesis, main claims supporting the thesis, and specific supporting details that demonstrate and clarify your main points. Your opinions and ideas form the essence of this paper. Use quotes from the readings to support your assertions; do not just summarize others.
Please include photos or links to your advertisements at the end of your essay.
