SDSU Purpose of Arguing in Communications Discussion
Choose ONE (1) of the topics below:
1) What is the purpose of arguing? What do we hope to gain when we argue? Is arguing a productive way to achieve those goals? What could we do to make arguing more likely to achieve our goals?
2) What does it mean for an argument to be “strong” or “good”? Is there an “objective,” “independent,” or “neutral” way to evaluate the strength of arguments? If yes, how do we do so? If no, does that mean all arguments are equally good and equally bad?
Culture in Media Commercials Discussion
I’m working on a communications question and need support to help me learn.
This week our focus is culture in commercials and advertisements. For example, you could look at commercials shown during the Super Bowl, current commercials showing women in more dynamic ways, mixed families, LGBTQI. whatever you choose, in terms of their inclusion of diversity issues. Select a commercial that has cultural aspects or dimensions of diversity and describe how it is displayed. Be sure to describe, then give your opinion, point of view, analysis and critique. It helps to make 2 or 3 separate paragraphs.
