Accreditation in health sector is the process of reviewing which is done by various bodies such as the ACHC (Accreditation Commission for Health Care) to ensure health organizations meet the required standards of operation (Araujuo et al., 2020). Once the reviewing is done, and the health organization promises to observe the outlined guidelines, it (health organization) is given the authority and permission to freely provide quality services to patients. The latter therefore become the main beneficiaries from the accreditation since they will enjoy up to standard services. The purpose of this paper is to assess the importance of accreditation to the entire health sector with the main focus on how it has helped in mitigating risk compliance issues in health organizations.
Accreditation of health organization has helped in reducing risk compliance issues. Many times, health organizations tend to maintain a low profile in cases where a patient or any health worker has been injured simply because they do not want to spend an extra coin outside their budget. Accreditation ensures the health organization has all the protective tools and equipment to be used by the health workers before it is set free to operate. Through this, risks which could have been caused by carelessness reduce (Kommers, n.d.). Additionally, accreditation saves the voiceless and weak people so that in case they encounter some risks in their daily duties, the hospital will take care of any medical bill and other financial requirements during the entire healing season.
The UNC group of hospitals was put on probation by The Joint Commission in 2019. Several problems such as lack of certified documents on suicide screening, doctor medication orders and ligature resistant furniture. A hospital is allowed to operate only if it has a complete set of the required documents which proves that they have all the physical requirements and human resource. Therefore, it is advisable that UNC group of hospitals and all health organizations should have all the required documents, facilities or furniture as well as qualified personnel so as to avoid putting the patients and all workers in that set up to risks which could have otherwise been avoided.
