Describe the psychosocial perspectives of schizophrenia. & reply back to the other student 2 of them
Mia WhiteheadAccording to the textbook, Schizophrenia is strongly linked to biological factors. However, there are social factors that have an influence on the onset of schizophrenia as well as its course and outcome. Studies show that people with schizophrenia are more likely to have been born in large cities which brings up the question of whether the stress of being in a large city leads to psychosis. Socioeconomic status is also mentioned and studies reveal that those with schizophrenia are often well below the socioeconomic status of their parents. Social factors related to stress like poverty and discrimination play a role in the onset of schizophrenia.Stress can trigger new episodes in people who have the disorder. It has been discovered that before an individual relapses and has an episode, they were experiencing high levels shortly before.Research has also shown that people with schizophrenia who live in a family with highly expressed emotions have a diminished ability to cope with their illness and in turn that triggers new episodes. In those who have not yet been diagnosed, this family setting can trigger the onset of the illness. The textbook also mentions the differences in how the illness is explained across cultures in which most cultures go straight to the biological approach that runs in the family.Nancy AmayaSchizophrenia is a brain disorder in which the person has an abnormal interpretation of reality. It is common for people diagnosed with schizophrenia to display deficits in social cognition. They can experience difficulty recognizing emotional expressions and following thoughts during social interactions in order to infer others intentions. These issues can lead to negative, disorganized symptoms and make it difficult to function as an active member of a community. Negative symptoms can manifest in ways that could impair someone socially and make it difficult for them to hold a job, stay in school or find pleasure in friendships and familiar relationships and engage in an emotionally conscious manner. There are studies that show that stress and the environment in which a person with schizophrenia lives in can cause episodes to occur more frequently. The extent of the family’s involvement can cause greater harm than good. This all causes them to drift downwards in social class as their inability to remain stable by holding a job or going to school greatly affects they economic status
