Nursing Practicum Proposal
Purpose Statement: This purpose practicum project will seek to identify how some management styles employed by nurse leader’s contribute to challenges that may impact the productivity of nurses’ retention and job satisfaction rates. Analyzing the 2019 NSI National Health Care Retention & RN Staffing Report and various articles on nurse turnover and leadership styles impact on nurse job satisfaction, will be used to illuminate reasons why some nurses leave or stay at an organization.

How Leadership Styles May Influence Nurse Job Satisfaction and Retention
The purpose of this practicum project is to understand how the various management styles affect the nurse’s satisfaction levels, which affects the retention rates in the organization. The project will aim at understanding how the characteristics of each management style affect the actual and the perceived nurse satisfaction with their place of work and the retention rates in the organization.
It will also be the aim of the project to gather and analyze information relating to the correlation of the management in an organization and the turnover rates.The recruitment and retention of qualified health care professionals remains a priority for health care facilities. Nurse turnover is costly because it reduces the company’s productivity and patient care quality.
In the health care setting, nurse management styles play a great impact on the human relations management aspects in the organization. These differing management styles have distinct ways of interaction and addressing the needs of the nurses that crucial in informing the nurses satisfaction.
Given that the health care setting is complex and requires maximum care when dealing with human lives, management plays a great role in providing direction as well as in managing the needs of the nurses. The methods employed by the leader affects the workplace satisfaction, which eventually affects the retention rates in the organization.
