Hosting refugees in the United States has been a debate for quite some time now. While this is a dived conflict, hosting refugees should not be up for debate. There are many reasons why hosting refugees is good for everyone. Refugees come from all over the world in fact the top 10 origin countries refugees come from according to the Refugee Processing Center is “Dominican Republic of Congo, Burma, Ukraine, Bhutan, Eritrea, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Pakistan, Russia, Ethiopia” (Fact sheet: U.S. refugee resettlement 2020). Refugees come from countries that are corrupt and come to the United States to seek freedom and a better place.
People do not notice for the United States to hold refugees there is a certain process they have to go through. During the pandemic many people lost their jobs but brining in refugees boast the economy and “during the pandemic, refugees have worked in the essential industries keeping our communities afloat” (Why should America take in more refugees? get the facts on the refugee cap. 2021). While many claim they are taking jobs from “true Americans” in reality they are not only creating more jobs, but also taking the jobs people don’t want. Brookings education article Why accepting refugees is a win-win formula by Dany Bahar further explains why refugees living in the United States is the right thing to do and why people need to get behind the idea instead of put defenses up. While the United States is amid about terrorist threats having more refugees is one way to help the rest of the world see what corruption leads to and how we can help it. Instead of those arguing why we don’t want them in the country they should be asking what the country is doing wrong. After all military troops pulling out of Afghanistan there has been a leading debate on why not to accept them saying they are coming in for the wrong reason, but many refugees have lived hard lives and want to admit to society and feel at home in someplace. Not all refugees are bad and just want a new start and to finally not deal with the daily struggle they have been dealing with their whole lives and want to have the chance to give their children a fresh start. Refugees aren’t here to commit crimes just because where they come from there are a lot of crimes, did we ever consider they are hear to run away from crimes they have had to see. My goal is to tell the people why hosting refugees is a long and secure process and once they do get admitted how great they are for the economy and how they increase national security. How without refugees our country will not be able to strive and grow especially after the pandemic and especially how they are not the enemies but rather the friends we should be making, because America is built on diversity that is what makes this country so great.
