The Anatomy of Forgiveness and Reconciliation
Three ideas that explain the process of forgiveness and reconciliation are spirituality and community building, promoting peace among the people in a society, and spreading hope. These three issues lead to forgiveness and reconciliation since people need to believe in a better future that will not be compromised with hatred and vile actions against each other. Spirituality and community building are important to ensure that people can coexist together (Payaslian, 2017). The Rwandan Genocide experience is a typical illustration of the need for community building and spirituality to ensure people can exist with one another; After the occurrence, it would be hard for people to survive on their own with fear within themselves. Spirituality and community building helps to shape the life of the people. Promoting peace among people commences with honesty and confession of the crimes people have committed to giving them hope. It is important since the people who have committed the crimes can own up to their mistakes and give hope for change to future generations.
The biblical truth about forgiveness is that God can reconcile with human beings and still be just to people without discrimination of the sins one has committed. 2nd Corinthians 5:18-21 speaks about the reconciliation that God has with human beings regardless of them since they have committed, He is faithful to forgive humanity of their wrongdoings (Tran, 2020). The scripture supports the reconstruction process of peace in Rwanda after the genocide since people need to engage with each other through honesty and truth to build peaceful communities. When people cannot forgive one another and reconcile, it will be an impossible task to ensure there is hope and belief in the future for harmony. Therefore, the scripture offers the enlightenment that people need to ensure they can forgive to build better communities, promote peace and spread hope within the communities.
The moments of forgiveness and reconciliation impact people since they allow us to see the brighter side of humanity. Human beings are social creatures, and existing in peace and full of hope allows people to look forward to the future, expecting the best out of it. The process of peace and reconciliation allows people to relieve the burden they have within themselves through honest conversations, owning up to their mistakes and shortcoming, and being ready to humble themselves to be accepted (Schliesser, 2020). The forgiveness and reconciliation processes form the fundamentals of the virtues people should have to culture peaceful communities where everyone can accept one another. The experience shows the significance of community building and spiritual growth to promote the sustainability of societies.
