The article is relatively recent and casts a new perspective on management practices from the past 100+ years. Each of the three “ages” of management McGrath puts forth emphasizes a different theme: execution, expertise, and empathy. McGrath makes the argument that we have passed through these ages or eras (and, incidentally, are at the brink of a new age – but that is out of scope for this assignment).
-You will need to research existing management theories and look for correlations with each of McGrath’s eras (that is, look for a management theory in which you feel “empathy” is utilized, for example). There are two parts to this assignment: Create a persuasion map that supports McGrath’s theory. Research the literature to find management theories that justify each of the three ages (execution, expertise, empathy).
– The map should be concise, with “evidence” in bullet or short sentence form. Evidence will take the form of theories that we will be exploring in class this semester. Thus, you will perform a high-level survey of management theories and align 3 (or more) management theories from the 20th or 21st century with each of McGrath’s ages. It doesn’t matter which management era or theory you choose from. Accompany the map with an annotated bibliography of your research sources.
– Expected: minimum of 5 to a maximum of 7 bibliography entries (total) for the assignment.
-Be sure your literature review and related bibliography are clearly representative of each age/evidence theory pairing. The annotated summaries should each be one to two paragraphs in length (around 150 words per summary), written clearly and concisely in APA 7th format.
