The law was enacted in two parts: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law on March 23, 2010. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act on March 30, 2010. The name Affordable Care Act refers to the final, amended version of the law (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service, HealthCare.gov, n.d.). The goal of the PPACA (Affordable Care Act) is to reduce the number of uninsured people in the United States.

A recent study illustrates that nearly two (2) million juveniles are processed through juvenile courts across the United States each year. Depending on the nature of the crime, juveniles may face detention or incarceration if they are convicted.
