Gianna LaBarberaMajor Tax Structure; VDAPIn 1985 a huge volcano erupted near the area that is known as “the ring of fire”. The ring of fire is described as an area in the pacific ocean that is extremely prominent due to the fact its near the highest peak of the subduction zone. The eruption made large amount of gas and rocks pour from the volcano. With these actions more than 23,000 people were killed due to the eruption.
Experts suggest that the volcano could have defiantly been avoided in the aspect of saving many people. Due to these events a disaster team known as VDAP (Volcano Disaster Assistance Program), has been working to insure events like these don’t transpire again. The VDAP is a group that not only works in the ring of fire area but assistance programs that allows assistances internationally. The program is used with high technology so that an oncoming hurricane is able to be tracked and help get other people evacuated. The program is ran by the United States Government.
The team was contacted so they could be the first to report the problem not only to the United States but globally as well. This enables a sense of diplomacy so that we can help other nations keep their people safe as well. It keeps good peace and an advantage for the United States. The person in charge of this group John Pallister, “these accomplishments are really not mine, it’s our teams and our international partners who really make it all possible” This article I have used to demonstrate and act of innovation in the public sector is also correspond with major tax structure.
In order have such an agency like this ran is built off the idea that the government must fund such event. Especially because it is internationally the work is done government to government. In this scenario the United States does the work in finding the hazards volcanos and then reports to other counties as needed. However depending on what the may happened the VDAP may stop there. Letting another country know that’s all that can be done by evacuating there people may be it.
However these people also work hand in hand with FEMA which then taken out of the Reserve Fund “Natural Disasters”. https://www.govloop.com/meet-govie-making-explosive-difference/
Jeffrey RivanHi Class, My story that I’m bringing you today comes all the way from the Netherlands and how they came up with an idea to better conduct business. In the past, there had been issues with the way they have handled things and have received a lot of backlash from the public and other government’s agencies with the way they do things. To remedy this, the Netherlands had groups of people work to develop solutions to instances where red tape is causing citizens or businesses aggravation with government or other known as Kafka Brigades.
These brigades worked together over a three month period to develop the best plan of action for tacking a certain situation. They would start by looking at it from a business and citizen perspective and one in case used a movie, to detail the user experience. Experts are then brought in for additional help and guidance, along with business owners and citizens to review the user experience created by the group.
The culmination of experts, business owners and citizens working together on the project is when its officially known as a Kafka Brigade, leading them to develop the action plan once the review has been conducted. These brigades have tackled issues regarding restaurant licenses to volunteers working with disabled people. These brigades must take budgeting seriously when developing the action plan. Making a plan with an absurd budget not might see it come to fruition.
Being able to allocate resources wisely and plan accordingly is an important skill to have when dealing with government projects. This can also tie in to accounting as well, with the resources and equipment used by the brigades will have to be funded somehow and the plans that emerge from it.http://www.kafkabrigade.org/ (Links to an external site.)
Joel Choteau The idea I am talking about today is from the city of New Orleans and how they are dealing with “blighted” properties. Blighted properties are properties either occupied or lived in that fail to meet the minimum requirements of the city code. Most of these properties are abandoned and have been since Hurricane Katrina. Under the past mayor, the city negotiated with FEMA to demolish an additional 919 units and that number has jumped to 4,000 since September 2010.
The properties that were being lived in the city partnered with local non-profits and tapped into federal capital improvement project funds to help those homeowners make repairs and bring their homes back up to code.
By improving and demolishing properties, the city has improved their neighborhoods and attracted business owners and new homeowners back to the city. This has led to an increase in tax revenue which then allowed the city to snowball that increase back into the blighted properties problem. While this wasn’t a new innovation that was created it was a realigning of priorities and a better use of available partnerships and federal funding.
This helped alleviate the impact these properties had on the local tax districts and helped bring in over 500 new homebuyers and pumped over 100 million dollars into the economy from their capital improvement projects.https://www.nola.gov/performance-and-accountability/blight-report_web/
Moise Limagehello class-specific implications for conflict sensitivity arise in relation to nomadic populations in relation to natural resource management and conflict-mediation. This is especially relevant for the Sahel region, which is witnessing increasing competition for access to land, water other natural resources, contributing at times to violent and frequent conflict over resources essential to maintaining livelihoods.
At the same time, a growing population means that local farmers are encroaching on land previously reserved for grazing while the government’s allocation of land for private use has further reduced grazing areas for pastoral communities. This dynamic has threatened food security and livelihoods, bringing nomadic populations increasingly into closer proximity with pastorals. Some of the initiatives discussed above may be supported or facilitated by non-state providers.
Indeed, one feature of many post-conflict environments may be high level of such providers, which is also often true in many low-density and remote areas. In these contexts, it may be particularly important to build in government oversight roles. There are some useful examples for how to ‘contract out’ services while maintaining a role for government in fragile and post-conflict contexts.
Countries with federal governments have also used such asymmetric arrangements, often to increase support for and oversight of more marginalized areas. In Australia and Canada, for example, services to marginalize areas (i.e. with remote and indigenous populations) are delivered by federal government rather than by decentralizing government entities, despite the fact that service delivery in general is decentralized in these countries.
Justin Lee Hello everyone, Ever since the world found out about the coronavirus, our level of sanitation has been challenged. We’ve been forced to change the way we live and how we do simple tasks such as going outside. As the virus became more widespread and more people were getting affected, we had to change the way we do business. Focusing more on education, almost every (if not all) schools and universities have gone to fully remote classes in order to combat the virus and keep students safe from contracting the virus.
State and local governments have allowed schools to use the zoom program to help homeschooling students while they are unable to attend school. For those who may not be too familiar with Zoom, It is a program that allows you to video and audio conference with other participants.
In a simpler way, it’s Skype with your classmates and teacher and you go through the course materials. It’s interesting how educators have found a way to continue classes so the school year won’t be put on pause. With online classes becoming more popular, I find Zoom to be an awesome thing to offer students providing more free time to do other activities and still be able to get an education without time restriction.
