Non-Experimental or Quasi-Experimental

The type of the research paper you are planning to write typically determines whether to use an experimental or non-experimental approach. Remembering that within a research paper three main objectives are to describe, predict, and explain within any theses statement that you have chosen to discuss. If the goal was to explain and the research question pertains to causal links, I would prefer to use an experimental approach. A non-experimental strategy will work if the objective is to describe or predict the outcome of the question within your research paper. After reviewing what would better assist me in writing my paper and support my theses statement, I feel I would go with the non-experimental approach. Research that doesn’t involve the modification of an independent variable it would be best to use a non-experimental approach. Researchers doing non-experimental study simply assess variables as they occur naturally rather than influencing an independent variable. This would help me considering my topic of discussion involves real world situations that involve the evolution of policing and the cause-and-effect factors to take into considerations when certain situations happen. As the reduction of violence suggests, the philosophy of the police use of force policy and where it is going might be related to the idea of good policing. Cross-sectional research, correlational research, and observational research are the three main types of non-experimental research. I feel my research is leaning more towards observational research due to its emphasis on making unaltered observations of behavior in a natural or laboratory environment, observational research is considered to be non-experimental. Non-experimental research designs include those where an experimenter only describes a group or looks at connections between existing groups. Most study based involving police encounters occur in a setting the is situational based and could not have a controlled prediction to conclude factual statements instead of forced views that are predominantly given. Since the participants in the groups are not chosen at random and the investigator does not modify an independent variable, no inferences about the causal linkages between the study’s variables can be made. This will also help me take into consideration that not all departments are the same and all deal with different social, economic, political, and racial background. In non-experimental designs, there is typically little effort made to control for potential challenges to internal validity. This leads towards my second argument or reasoning that the concept of police legitimacy is a key topic in police studies and theories, not only because it has grown more challenging for the police in many states over the last few decades to uphold or regain their credibility, but also because legitimacy is a complex term, because an individual’s assessment of the propriety of a hierarchy between a rule or ruler and the people under it. Non-experimental designs are used solely to respond to inquiries regarding groups or to determine whether there are any differences between groups. Nonexperimental research yields conclusions that are essentially descriptive in nature. Nonexperimental research is never used to infer causal linkages in any way other than for the specific reason for which it was conducted.

Introduction
45-41 points The context and relevance of the issue, as well as a clear description of the study aim, are presented. The history of searches is discussed. |
Literature Support
91-84 points The context and relevance of the issue, as well as a clear description of the study aim, are presented. The history of searches is discussed. |
Methodology
58-53 points With titles for each slide as well as bulleted sections to group relevant information as required, the content is well-organized. Excellent use of typeface, color, images, effects, and so on to improve readability and presenting content. The minimum length criterion of 10 slides/pages is reached. |
Average Score

40-38 points
More depth/information is required for the context and importance, otherwise the study detail will be unclear. There is no search history information supplied. |
83-76 points
There is a review of important theoretical literature, however there is limited integration of research into problem-related ideas. The review is just partly focused and arranged. There is research that both supports and opposes. A summary of the material given is provided. The conclusion may or may not include a biblical integration. |
52-49 points
The content is somewhat ordered, but there is no discernible organization. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on may sometimes distract from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
Poor Quality
0-45% |
37-1 points
The context and/or importance are lacking. There is no search history information supplied. |
75-1 points
There has been an examination of relevant theoretical literature, but still no research concerning problem-related concepts has been synthesized. The review is just somewhat focused and organized. The provided overview of content does not include any supporting or opposing research. The conclusion has no scriptural references. |
48-1 points
There is no logical or apparent organizational structure. There is no discernible logical sequence. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on often detracts from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
