After reading the assigned sections of the book, Difficult
Conversations, if you found the method recommended by the authors to be ethical, socially responsible and just, your thesis statement might look like this.
Thesis statement: The authors of the book, Difficulty Conversations, have created a method for addressing
challenging situations that is ethical, socially responsible and just.
Alternatively: If you found the method unethical or aspects unethical you would state that as your thesis
statement and defend it. In this paper, you are building an argument to support your thesis.
Assessment Artifact: Write a 1,500 word paper (5 pages) on ethics, social responsibility, and justice as it relates
to what you learned from Difficult Conversations. After reading the first four chapters and chapter eight, assess if the method recommended in Difficult Conversations is ethical, just and social responsibility. For purpose of this
paper we can use the following definitions:
Ethics: is the basic concept and fundamental principle of decent human conduct. Ethics is operational, meaning, what is ethical can only be determined within the situation itself. The simplest way to determine if we are being ethical is this. If we do our best to ‘see and treat others as our very own self’, we are being ethical. Ultimately,
ethics is a matter of our intent. If our intentions include a concern for the well being of all those who will be
impacted, then our behavior is ethical. Notice that social responsibility and justice/fairness are simply specific
aspects within ethics. Remember to keep the primary focus on ethics of the method in your paper.
Social Responsibility: As it is used here, social responsibility is the obligation of an organization to respect the
well being and rights of its employees (this is the internal social responsibility of organizations.).
Justice/Fairness: is about fair treatment. Does whatever is being done respect the rights of others? Those rights
include freedom from bodily harm, coercion, blackmail, and discrimination and the essential freedoms of speech, religion, association as well as freedom to create a life for oneself.
The paper is to be in APA format. Readings & Resources: Stone, D., Patton, B., & Heen, S. (2010). Difficult Conversations: How to Discuss What Matters Most: NY. Penguin Group.

Average Score
50-85% |
40-38 points
More depth/information is required for the context and importance, otherwise the study detail will be unclear. There is no search history information supplied. |
83-76 points
There is a review of important theoretical literature, however there is limited integration of research into problem-related ideas. The review is just partly focused and arranged. There is research that both supports and opposes. A summary of the material given is provided. The conclusion may or may not include a biblical integration. |
52-49 points
The content is somewhat ordered, but there is no discernible organization. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on may sometimes distract from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
Poor Quality
0-45% |
37-1 points
The context and/or importance are lacking. There is no search history information supplied. |
75-1 points
There has been an examination of relevant theoretical literature, but still no research concerning problem-related concepts has been synthesized. The review is just somewhat focused and organized. The provided overview of content does not include any supporting or opposing research. The conclusion has no scriptural references. |
48-1 points
There is no logical or apparent organizational structure. There is no discernible logical sequence. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on often detracts from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
