Kevin Byrnes Building Business on Character Ethics
my post:
Summary of Kevin Byrnes Building Business on Character Ethics
According to the speaker, a good business in the past was always based on character ethics based on integrity, service, loyalty, gentleness, and understanding. However, over the past few years, with the coming of websites today, this character ethic has slowly been replaced with a personality ethic where the main aim of business is to manipulate the customer and get as much out of the customer as possible. He believes it’s the reason contributing to the problems we have today in the world with finances and other issues.
The speaker believes that money will automatically flow into a character-built business as its main aim is to give something of worth to the customer. In a business with worth as the cornerstone, money will be a by-product of the deed. Beginning with the end in mind, finding out the main goal around a business allows one to build a framework that works with one’s values as the core allows expectations to be met more easily. Doing a business with a character ethic leads to being appreciated by society and not being loathed for going just for profits, which creates a perfect environment for you and your business. Putting core values allows one to empower employees to put themselves in the customer’s shoes, which allows for exemplary service in the business as it is mostly the right thing to do. Employees are more comfortable, which allows them to have pure consciousness in the environment. They feel the environment they are working in is worth it, making the customer and employees feel satisfied with the business. A company will stand out with this value in a business; even in a recession, the company will still stand.
Nowadays, while in business, the value of more significant profit is a crucial goal for most companies, so it’s refreshing to see the speaker’s thoughts on a company built with a good character in mind. I agree with the speaker as even I would like to return to get a service from a company that is not only out there seeking just my money. It would be worth something to spend money on a company that puts itself in the shoes of a customer.

INSTRUCTOR’S RESPONSE:
Hi Ronda,
Thanks for your input. I share with the speaker the idea that a thriving business depends upon a motivated workforce and motivation is fed through displaying empathy, care, and empowerment. For the sake of this conversation, I encourage you to play devil’s advocate. What problems does this model present? Is it sustainable? What are its potential weaknesses
