For sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, the oceans are more than a muse — it is also the exhibition space, gallery and museum. Jason has devoted more than eighteen years to underwater life and its conservation along with his work as a sculptor and photographer. He is best known as the creator of MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte), the largest aquatic museum in the world, located near Cancun, Mexico, and the creation Museo Atlántico in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. Taylor creates sculptures of human forms and mundane life on land and sinks them to the ocean floor, where they are subsumed by the sea and transformed from bland concrete into a colorful and bustling habitat for corals, crustaceans fish and other creatures.
