Rich Point Project: Part 3 (Observation & Library Research)
This is assignment is the third part of your Rich Point Project, which we will be working on all semester — for more information on this assignment and the overall project, review the Rich Point Project overview video.
Your task now is to begin library research and time in observation to gain a greater understanding of your rich point and your speech community. For your previous assignments, you identified a type of communicative conduct that you found confusing but intriguing and you worked toward identifying a particular speech community that makes use of that form, now its time to learn more about your area of interest.
In a 6–8-page report (annotated bibliography and observation report) you are going to identify 3 or more relevant and/or scholarly resources and conduct 3 or more new observations.
Assignment Requirements:
You may find scholarship on (1) the specific form of expression you are interested in (e.g., extended complaint sessions among rural Hungarians), (2) the speech community of your choice in general (without reference to the particular form of expression that intrigued you, e.g., Hungarian rural ways of speaking), or (3) your speech community of choice within the context of a larger speech community (e.g., Hungarian cultural ways of speaking).
Create an annotated bibliography of these readings using the APA template. Your entries should include reflections on how the reading you are annotating could inform your research on your rich point. Please Note: You will have to find a minimum of six sources before the end of the final Rich Point Paper, keep that in mind as you look for resources now.
Describe (1) what you have observed and when, and (2) what each observation helped you understand about your rich point. Please Note: You will have to complete a minimum of six observations before the end of the final Rich Point Paper, keep that in mind as you look for resources now.
Remember, these projects build upon one another, so only address the requirements of this paper, other questions (such as combining your research and observations in a cohesive paper), will be addressed in another paper.
Grading Guidelines/Expectations
You will be graded based on the following criteria:
