Learning Journal 1 (Tuesday, 19 October 2021)
During the last few years, I worked in different places and I had different experiences from both of this places, I had good and bad experiences as well I learnt new skills from both places.
I have worked in a Café as a team member and as a sale assistant in a retailer.
The manager that I had in the café was an amazing leader, he was helping the team and motivating all the time. He was a friendly person even when he was assigning jobs to the team was doing it in a polite and funny way that everyone liked and respected.
He thought me that a manager does not need to be very strict with the team and should work with them and understand the way they are thinking and respect their opinion. Moreover, to be flexible with the team and willing to help them if they have any problem.
On the other hand, the experience I faced with the manager in the retailer was not very nice. This was because the manager was thinking that she was always right and that all the staff are working for her. This left the team working under a stressed environment.
After these experiences I learnt that a manager should be a good leader as working in a good environment will definitely change the way the team will be acting and working.
During last year all the lectures were online due to Covid-19 pandemic. So, we couldn’t meet friends and going to the university to study in university environment.
For that I started to read more which is something I did not do before. and this helped me to understand that reading is the best way to improve any skills you have.
My career goals are to start my own business as well as gain new skills and gain new marketing knowledge.
Guest lectures are important as they help the student to understand the module in different way and in an interesting way, and work on the main areas that need to be improved as well.
Learning Journal 2 Thursday, (4 November 2021)
I prefer working in team rather than by myself. Because by working in group, I can learn more information and we all can share different ideas that can help us to have more knowledge, our communication can be improved by working in a group, as it is very important to be able to work in a group as this will improve your skills of sharing ideas with the team and be able to accept everyone ideas as well as convincing the team about your ideas.
One of the main problems that we face is time management. For example, if we want to plan for a meeting, we have to spend lots of time until we decide a day that is suitable for all the group, as maybe most of them has different modules in different time so planning for the right time that is good for everyone it was a bit difficult.
Some of the skills that I need to excel in working in a group are as follow: time management, working under pressure, working in a team and problem solving, by understanding those skills I will be able to work more on it and be able to improve it.
Help students improve their learning in a more interactive, topic specific way. It also helps student to learn new skills and knowledge, and you can also see the areas that you need to work on to improve it.
Learning Journal 3 (Thursday, 9 December 2021)
The following competencies that we choose for our DC are communication, problem solving, teamwork and decision making. The following competencies are very important as they are very helpful to improve the work of the team and these competencies are the most important competencies that need to be included in each group work.
Communication is important as without communication the team can’t reach the best quality of work and gain good mark. By communicating with the team we can understand what each of us is doing and according to that we can help each other to improve each one role. Also by communicating with the team can help you to be more confident about your ideas that you will share it with them. Now communication is very needed because by communicating you will be able to share and learn information and new knowledge.
Secondly, problem solving also helps the team to make choices and to look at problems from a new perspective. Additionally, teamwork is the most important part when working in groups, because by working with each other the group can achieve best results and good feedback. Lastly, decision making is also important as the team can collect different ideas and the best idea can lead the Team to the best decision, as you will have to accept everyone decision and sometimes you will be good at convincing the team at accepting your ideas.
In the CV i can add any courses we took and experiences, as well as the skills and educations hobbies and languages.
Learning Journal 4 Saturday, (8 January 2022)
I have enjoyed the module to a great extent as it helped expand my skills in managing and developing people, this module was very interesting and i really enjoyed being part of it, i learnt a lot of new important information, it helped me also to be more confident in working in groups and share my opinions with others and listening to other opinions at the same time. Also i had the opportunity to look more at my weaknesses and worked hard to improve it.
Understanding the core theoretical prospective of management and development coupled with leadership skills, helped me gain confidence in managing people more effectively and gain new information.
From a professional development standpoint, managing people fairly, and increasing their levels of engagement and performance will increase productivity and achieve the desired outcomes.
