Respond to the following questions in 25-50 words total.
The topic I have chosen to write my argument paper over is the pledge of allegiance and no longer saying it in schools and the reasons behind it. |
The topic of the pledge of allegiance no longer being said in schools is an appropriate argument paper because there are many different viewpoints on the subject. The topic can be argued either way and will be interesting to discuss. |
Part B: Forming Your Position to Develop Your Argument
Respond to the following questions using the topic you selected.
The postion that I carry on the pledge of allegiance and no longer saying it in schools is that I am against that. I would argue that it should be reinstated and said in schools again. |
a. Being that I am a military(army) veteran, I am very loyal to the united states and the flag. Althoug my viewpoint might be biased for that reason, I believe the pledge should be said in schools.
b. Growing up and going to school before the 2000’s, I remember standing in class every morning and reciting the pledge. Looking around and seeing everyone united and proud to say the pledge, I believe this is a reason it should be said in schools. c. The pledge of allegiance was written as a pledge of loyalty to the united stated and the flag. My beliefs coincide with this so that is a reason for it to be said in schools. |
I do believe after doing research that I will find plenty of data to support my position on this topic. If for some reason I am not able to research any data to support my position I will still maintatain my position. I will maintain my position and continue to argue my points on the topic. |
Part C: Drafting Your Thesis Statement
Create a rough draft of your thesis statement using your position and reasons for your position. Your thesis statement will serve as the claim in your argument.
American citizens should be loyal and devoted in their efforts to support the United States. Citizens should be respectful and observe the customs and laws of the land. |
Part D: Components of an Argument
Arguments can be easily misunderstood and misinterpreted. There may be times when we do not fully evaluate arguments before forming our response to them, and our response may have been different if we fully understood what was being argued. Argument evaluation is important in everyday life to help you communicate effectively with others and to form your own arguments.
Select one article from any of the themes on the Article List.
Read the article, and respond to the following:
Lyness, K.S., & Grotto, A.R.(2018). Women and Leadership in the United States: Are We Closing the
Gender Gap?. Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior, 5, 227-265. Stainback, K., Kleiner, S., & Skaggs, S. (2016). Women in power: Undoing or redoing the gendered organization?. Gender & Society, 30(1), 109-135. |
In this article, the author is claiming that women should be mentored and given positions toork as leaders. The women working with mentors are likely to aspire to the C-suit and reach their goals(Stainback, Kleiner, & Skaggs, 2016). |
There are some research that were conducted and that supports the claim of the author. From the research, only 32 percent of the women believed that goals are achievable and they can reach the C-suit. But with the establishment of women mentorship programs, the percentage rises to a value of 49(Lyness, & Grotto, 2018). |
