Description
IDS 2166 Capstone Paper Assignment Summer 2020
This is an analytical paper that should inform you (and me) about a topic pertinent to the goals of the class. Besides that, the topic is fairly wide open. Here are the requirements:
Write a 1,500-word paper about a work of art (visual or performing) and how it was used as propaganda. Another option is to compare/contrast two works of art from two different time periods, or two different points of view. How were they used as propaganda, i.e., what social agenda or political stance did the work of art support (or challenge)? If you have a topic that you want to investigate, that doesn’t fit these prompt, feel free to ask if it is okay. If it suits the purpose of the course, I will approve it. If you write about one work of art, it has to be one NOT covered in the course.
If you decide to compare two works, only one
(1) work may be one covered in the course. You should consider the time period they come from (its political, economic and social climate) as well as any historical event that shapes the work. How does the work comment on the human condition of the time? How do they persuade (are they propaganda)? How do I do this? You need to use at least three sources. You may use One (1) source from the Readings (I’ll provide a list of which ones).
This means three books or articles from a credible, scholarly work. You may want to start with JSTOR through the FSU library. (Go to Canvas site; click on Library Tools; click on Find a Database; click on J; click on JSTOR; type in topic etc. as directed.) You may NOT use Wikipedia, or any online dictionary or biography online. No .com sites may be used. You may NOT use YouTube videos including Khan Academy. You must cite correctly. This means giving credit to any and everyone for their idea(s).
If you paraphrase, you need a citation at the end of the paragraph (Shakespeare 14). If you directly quote, you need a citation at the end of the quotation i.e. “To Be or Not to Be” (Shakespeare 35). Use parenthetical quotes as noted. You will also need to provide a Works Cited page in MLA or Chicago format. You need to submit your paper by the due date through Turnitin, so be sure to do your own work. Not only does it need to be your own work, but it also has to be original to this class for you to receive credit. Your first task is to complete the WTOB.
Please review the instructions for it contained in this module and also check out the Rubric.
Topics that May NOT be Used: Any poster art from the 20th and 21st centuries (no WWII, Nazi, Soviet Union, Uncle Sam etc. posters may be used) Comparing the Davids (a David may be compared to another sculpture) Comparing da Vinci’s The Last Supper to Veronese’s A Feast in the House of Levi (both works can be compared to another painting)

More depth/information is required for the context and importance, otherwise the study detail will be unclear. There is no search history information supplied. |
83-76 points
There is a review of important theoretical literature, however there is limited integration of research into problem-related ideas. The review is just partly focused and arranged. There is research that both supports and opposes. A summary of the material given is provided. The conclusion may or may not include a biblical integration. |
52-49 points
The content is somewhat ordered, but there is no discernible organization. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on may sometimes distract from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
Poor Quality
0-45% |

The context and/or importance are lacking. There is no search history information supplied. |
75-1 points
There has been an examination of relevant theoretical literature, but still no research concerning problem-related concepts has been synthesized. The review is just somewhat focused and organized.
