Personal Interviewing Questions
students will engage in a 10-15 minute conversation with another individual. This conversation should be video recorded so the student can go back and review it at a later time (your smart phone is probably best for this). Students will facilitate a conversation based on one of the prompts listed below. Be sure that you take into consideration which prompt would be the best for you and the individual you are speaking with. You can talk with anyone you chose, but remember, this is a learning exercise, and there will likely be more value in talking with someone who you feel confident can have a meaningful conversation with you. Once you have identified the individual, be sure to let them know that the conversation is for an academic exercise and will be recorded for that reason. Out of respect for the individual, do not talk with anyone who does not feel comfortable being recorded. Also, be sure you are video recording, not just audio recording, so that you will be able to review aspects of nonverbal communication as well.
As the facilitator of the conversation, you have the ability to guide the discussion, so you may choose to have some follow up questions ready, or you can simply let the conversation progress organically. That is up to you. Just be mindful of which approach you feel you would be best given your own interpersonal skills, the topic, and the individual you are speaking to.
After completing your interview, and reviewing the video, please use this form to complete the
