Participate in Citizen ASAS-SN on Zooniverse
(https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/tharinduj/citizen-asas-sn). In this program, you will learn to identify and classify different types of variable stars that are observed with the All-Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN). Your research will consist of using the above webserver to look at light curves and decide what type of object you see. This can all be done from anywhere on a computer. You must spend about 2 hours learning to classify the sources, and then working on classification. Your report must contain screenshots of a selection of your identifications as examples.
There are two aspects of the project. The first is to do the research, and the second is to write it up. For the Citizen Science project, it is expected that you will spend about two hours on the research. For instance, if you choose to do a project on Zooniverse related to identifying or classifying sources, you must spend about two hours doing this piece. This will give you a sufficient feel for working with the data and for the different types of data that are part of that project.
After the research portion is completed, you will need to prepare your write up. This write-up should include background information on the topic you chose to work on, a description of what you did and how the research went, and concluding remarks on what you learned. For the Citizen Science project, please remember to keep screen shots or pictures of your efforts so that they can be included in the report. Since the background information will likely include use of external references, please remember to include a works cited at the end of your write-up.
