Describe one broad trend in healthcare finance rearrangement that is linked to one of the following: free market, government-sponsored, or employer-sponsored. What are your thoughts on the final result? Use at least one reference and a word count of 150-200.
You’ve done your research on three vendors to whom you’d like to outsource the deployment of electronic health records (EHRs) for the clinics as the manager of CTU Health Care Systems. You have a lot of important options to make as the manager about electronic medical record systems. At first, you assumed you could either use the other acute care organization’s existing EHR system or create a whole new EHR for both locations.
You had a meeting with your team, and after investigating numerous companies that provided both products and services, you requested RFPs from the following three firms:
ABC Systems Consulting, a leader in healthcare systems integration, declined to bid on the systems integration required to integrate the present EHR system with the other organization. This was due to the risks and time constraints associated with developing, implementing, and testing the huge number of interfaces necessary, as well as the client’s specified project completion timeline.
XYZ EHR Systems recommended that both facilities use its newly redesigned EHR, which includes a computerized physician order entry (CPOE) module, standardized medication interaction alert capability, and customizable clinical alert functionality. It was expected that the amalgamated business would be able to secure a far better deal on the new system than $50 million. Unfortunately, XYZ was unable to demonstrate that their recently updated EHR system had been successfully implemented in a similarly big delivery network or anywhere else.
QRS EHR Systems, a leading vendor of EHR systems for big acute care hospitals, proposed a $50–60 million price tag for its EHR to be installed in both acute care companies. A CPOE module, standardized medication interaction alert capability, and evidence-based clinical alert functionality were all incorporated in QRS. QRS also had a physician office EHR system with an embedded patient registration system; however, the company had little experience integrating the physician office registration system with the acute care (hospital) registration system—an integration feature that the client’s information technology (IT) strategic plan prioritized for this project.
In terms of revenue and your career, the stakes surrounding your proposal to the chief information officer (CIO) and chief executive officer (CEO) could not be greater.
In your 3- to 4-page paper, don’t forget to include the title page and reference page:
What are the most important pieces of information for you to consider when choosing a vendor?
What other choices do you have, if any?
What are the case’s crucial success factors?
Based on the RFPs you received, what advice do you have for the CIO and CEO?
