The world of nursing is forever changing especially with advanced nurse practitioners entering the field. The years of face-to-face interaction with a provider are something that is becoming harder to find. People often do not like or embrace change and that is one of the biggest pitfalls to healthcare.
The transition from traditional face-to-face nursing to telehealth necessitates local agreements and further professional talks about how this transformation will be embraced and implemented. Furthermore, the company has to make sure that nurses have adequate tools and support to use telehealth ( Koivunen 2017).
Other barriers may include the saturation of advanced practice nurses. Many of my teachers were already nurse practitioners, and they simply could not find a job because they stated that the job market was saturated for family nurse practitioners. Some of them even went on to work as floor nurses in the ICU because jobs were so scarce. People are living longer with means a more dire need for more advanced practitioners will be necessary.
Effective implementation in the provision and consumption of healthcare services will be required to address this cost growth. As populations continue to age, rising health productivity will become highly significant.
Restriction to the advanced nurse practice from federal and state laws is another barrier that blocks the progress. Allowing NPs to operate more independently, boosting NP professional visibility within a clinical setting, and strengthening relationships with both clinicians and administration are all instances of positive NP work environments ( Poghosyan 2021).
According to ( Poghosyan 2021), there is a growing body of evidence about the impact of NP work environment on the quality of care and patient outcomes; thus, removing SOP restrictions on nurse practitioners may also lead to better care and patient outcomes. In addition, an NP just graduating from school may face a lack of support and mentorship.
They may also be faced with an extreme caseload and can become overwhelmed as they may not feel confident in their abilities to perform their role effectively. Furthermore, they may find trouble finding work and life balance. Because of the frequent provider turnover, there are always shortages in primary care. This may be related to the difficult nurse practitioner shift from expert registered nurse to rookie nurse practitioner (Mounayar 2021).
