Students are to apply what they have learned over the course of the quarter to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) about a physical geography concept, such as earthquakes, flooding, fires or responding to or adapting to climate change, soil depletion, acid rain, plate tectonics, hurricanes, etc…

Students will be given free rein as to the format of the PSA. Examples provided include videos, animations, Story Maps, or a poster with an infographic. See below link

Global Clothing Map Essay Assignment

1.) Print the “World Blank Base” map attached to this assignment.

Locate at least 40 items of clothing that have “Made in _________” labels. Count the number of items that come from each labeled country. For example, you may find that 5 of your items are from Honduras, 4 are from India, and so on.

Investigate your data, and group your countries of clothing origin into 3-5 data classes. For example, you might assign one color to all countries that had 1-2 items of clothing, a second color to all countries with 3-4 items of clothing, and so on. Construct a choropleth map with your data classes and include a key or legend that explains your data classes somewhere on your map.

Once you have constructed your Clothing Map and determined which country has produced the majority of your clothing, search newspaper and magazine databases to find an article from the last year that discusses working conditions and/or GDP of that country. Provide a summary of the article and reflect on the article and its connection to the section “Globalization and Development” (60-67) in the Hobbs textbook (300-word minimum). Be sure to include a citation for your news story.
