Early Childhood Paper (Age 4-6)
Ask the child these questions, not the parents, unless otherwise noted. Provide the responses and any behavior observed. Parents may want to be present for the interview, but it is not necessary. Always ask permission from the parents if you are interviewing a child that you do not know (for example, a child from a daycare facility). Start thinking of who is available for you to interview. Do not wait until the week the paper is due because you must work around other people’s schedules. Due to Covid-19 concerns, you may complete this interview via zoom. The 3 concepts of conservation experiments are important topics in this interview, and they will be graded accordingly. You must set up and perform each experiment correctly to receive points. Practice setting up these experiments before you interview your subject. All topics must be included in your paper. If for some reason you cannot include a specific topic, please explain why in your paper. When typing your papers, please list all the topics in order. You may need to rephrase some questions so your subject can better understand them. Please see the rubric for the specific breakdown of points. Physical Aspects: Their height and weight at birth and now (ask parents this one) What are their favorite foods? Have they lost any of their primary (baby) teeth yet? What are their bedtime routines, and do they use transitional objects? What are some nighttime fears? Give specific examples of gross and fine motor skills (at least one example of each). Cognitive Aspects: Perform 3 concepts of conservation experiments with a number, mass, and liquid. It is best to do these experiments in this order. See textbook, Chapter 7 PPT, and YouTube clip for specific instructions. Give an example of egocentrism. Ask your subject what THEY think YOU would like for YOUR birthday, not what they would like for theirs. Assess their language skills (use of different vocabulary words, any grammatical mistakes, can you understand them, etc.) What is their earliest memory? “What do you remember from a long time ago?” Psychosocial Aspects: Explore gender differences and gender roles by asking BOTH questions: “How do you know if a boy is a boy and a girl is a girl? What kinds of things do mommies and daddies do? Identify their temperament – which of the 3 types are they? Determine their self-concept. Ask them to describe themselves and what they can do and what they are good at. Social skills – ask who their friends are and what they do together. What types of play do they engage in? What types of shows do they watch on TV (or Netflix) and how often? Which type of parenting style is used based on their answer on how they are disciplined? “What happens when you get in trouble?” (You may want to double-check this answer with your parents.)

There is a review of important theoretical literature, however there is limited integration of research into problem-related ideas. The review is just partly focused and arranged. There is research that both supports and opposes. A summary of the material given is provided. The conclusion may or may not include a biblical integration. |
