Description
1. Nimona Discussion Questions – Graphic Content This can be 400 words. Given that Nimona is a graphic novel and the artwork gives as much to the story, I’m again dividing our discussion into two sections this week: one that looks at the story as a whole and one that considers how the form (a graphic novel) affects that story. For this one, answer at least one of the questions below, and respond to at least three of your peers. As always, I’m looking for depth of thought and engagement here.
Questions are below here: There are two options. Pick one Discuss the use of Stevenson’s color choices throughout the book. Different characters, locations, and memories all used different color palettes. How do these help define the characters and settings?
Discuss Stevenson’s use of occasional black and white panels. How does this help her tell the story?
2. Nimona Discussion Questions – Narrative Content
This one can be 400 words. Given that Nimona is a graphic novel and the artwork gives as much to the story, I’m again dividing our discussion into two sections this week: one that looks at the story as a whole and one that considers how the form (a graphic novel) affects that story. For this one, answer at least two of the questions below, in separate replies, and respond to at least three of your peers. As always, I’m looking for depth of thought and engagement here. Questions are below here.
Pick two. How does Ambrosius fit into the archetype of a “hero?” How does he break that archetype? Do you consider him a hero or a villain? Do you consider Ballister a hero or villain? Discuss your answer. Why does Ballister create a potion that mimics the effects of jaderoot? Is this plan ethical? Do you think it was right or wrong? Does the end justify the means? Do you think the book had a happy ending? Why or why not?
3. The Giver Dicussion Questions This one can be 300 words. Answer at least 2 of the following questions below In The Giver, each family has two parents, a son and a daughter. The relationships are not biological but are developed through observation and a careful handling of personality. In our own society, the makeup of family is under discussion.
How are families defined? Are families the foundations of a society, or are they continually open for new definitions? What are some possible benefits of the definition of family in Jonas’ community? What are the sacrifices that Jonas’ community has to make because of the way it defines and creates families? I thank you in advance this semester has been difficult with COVID! I’ve attached some screen shots I tried to narrow it to make it easiest for others
