Project 2: Three Dimensional Conceptualization
Objective
The objective of Project 2 is to make a three dimensional puzzle in SolidWorks as a way to practice conceptualization of an idea. To conceptualize how each piece fits in the puzzle, to assemble the puzzle together.
Introduction
In this project you must design a three dimensional puzzle that when assembled, becomes a cube of six inches on a side. Each piece of the puzzle must fit to zero tolerance with no internal spaces. You will be free to make the pieces fit together any way you choose, but there should be at least six pieces. No two pieces should be the same, and only one piece can be of simple geometry such as a square or sphere. All sharp edges will have a fillet.
The above figure shows an example.
FOR THIS PROJECT YOU MUST WORK IN TEAMS OF TWO. Your partner will be assigned to you. A report is due with the project submission. The report template can be found posted on the blackboard site for the course.
HINT:
Sketch pieces first on paper before rendering them in SolidWorks. Sketch pieces one at a time, with a left view, top view, and front view to help aid your visual concept of what the 3_D image will look like. Assemble each piece as you construct them, to look for errors. As you assemble a pieces, sketch out the next pieces. Assemble using “collision detection” to help look for errors.
EXTRA CREDIT:
Make something besides a cube, such as a sphere or a star (worth 20%).
MAKE SURE YOU USE “PACK AND GO” TO COPY THE ASSEMBLY INTO THE SHARED DRIVE.
PROJECT 2 IS DUE BY 9/16 3:00 PM.
NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED
