WEEK 1
In this course, you will design a web store layout for your own retail Internet business. When developing a business it’s important to take a look at your competition. After listening to this week’s lecture, do a little searching for a potential B2C e-commerce web store competitor that you are comfortable critiquing over the next four weeks. Browse though the site. In a paper, using APA format, address the topics for week 1 listed below. Remember to save all of your work as each week builds on the previous week’s work to establish a complete understanding on the web store critique process. Utilize the PowerPoint lecture to assist you with the topics.
The paper should include:
1.1. B2C (e-retail site) name (slide 2 & 3)
1.2. List the URL
1.3. The date the web site review.
1.4. Review the website with popular browsers FireFox, MIE, Chrome, Safari, etc), both recent and earlier versions. Be sure to select browsers most frequently used by the sites visitors. Record the specific browsers and versions used. Make notes of any “browser specific” problems (problems specific to a single browser or a single version of a browser) during the review.
1.5. Search for existing reviews of the web site. Try Googling for “company name” “website review” or “company name.com” “web site review” and other variants.
2.1. Is the site an extension of an existing retailer or is it an Internet start-up? (slide 8)
2.2. Compare the web store to a brick-and-mortar that sells the equivalent products. What are the advantages that the online store could take advantage of and conversely what are the challenges? (slides 9 & 11)
2.3. Examine the web store with an eye for challenge typical of e-retailing businesses. List the most important weakness. How would you resolve the issue? (slide 14)
3.1. Can you make international purchases through the web store’s? What are the characteristics the products they sell that would make it easier or harder to sell online internationally? (slide 15)
