The assignments in this course have built on one another to take you through the process of
designing, administering, and analyzing a social science survey. While we were limited on time,
and therefore scope, you have still built your knowledge toolkit so that you could conduct
rigorous survey research on your own.
For this final paper assignment, you will build on the previous two assignments by analyzing the
survey you administered and write them up in a formal research paper.
First, it is important that you sent out the link to your survey and received at least 10 responses.
Please see my class announcements for ways to connect with your classmates if you need
additional people to fill out your survey.
Your research paper should be comprehensive. You will discuss your research topic, include a
brief literature review, analyze your preliminary survey results, and discuss your findings. The
paper should be about 7-9 pages, in paragraph form (following APA formatting, 12-point font,
double spaced, 1” margins). Please submit a paper, not an outline. You should use full sentences
and paragraphs that flow together. However, I have provided the outline below to guide you
through the components you should include.
I. Introduction (~ 1 page)
1. Describe the social problem you propose to study and explain why it is important to
study.
2. Present 1-2 main research questions and explain why they are important questions to
answer.
3. What is your hypothesis (the result you expect to find after administering your survey)
for each of your research questions?
I. Hypotheses should be specific and indicate the direction of the relationship (i.e.,
“mass incarceration leads to more children being raised in female-headed
households” or “UCSD students are more likely to support reforming drug
sentencing laws.”)
II. Literature Review (~ 2 pages)
1. Summarize and assess at least 3 scholarly (academic) journal articles on your topic. You
want to find articles that are closely related to your research question(s).
2. The purpose of a literature review is to frame and clarify your study in terms of existing
theory and research. It is important that these are social science journal articles. If you
are unsure, please check with me.
3. A literature review is not a summary of each article listed one after another. Instead,
you will need to synthesize the information you read in your sources, so you can apply it
to your particular research question. One way to do this is to use sub-headings (by
topics, theories, etc.) that can help you organize your thoughts and help your reader
follow along. In other words, identify key themes — especially shared themes across
articles — and write about them in a way that relates the themes together.
4. Think about the findings of these articles and what methods they used. How do they
help inform your project and how are they different?
5. Conclude this section by summarizing what is already understood about your research
question and what your study will add to the existing knowledge.

III. Research Methods (~ 2-3 pages)
1. Describe survey research methods, including the different types, main uses, and
strengths and limitations.
I. Based on this description, why is Survey a good research method to answer
your particular research question(s)?
II. Describe any hurdles or obstacles you faced in administering your survey.
2. Population and Sample
I. What is the population you will study?
II. Which sampling technique would you have preferred to use if we had time
to conduct a full research study (i.e., simple random sampling, convenience
sampling, etc.).
a) Describe how you would have carried out that sampling technique. In
other words, lay out the exact procedures to be used for generating
subjects or respondents.
b) What are the advantages and drawbacks to that sampling technique?
c) Given your research question(s) and population of interest, are there
any special demographic characteristics you want to ensure among
your sample?
3. Describe any ethical issues you have to be aware of (if you are working with human
subjects) and how you will respond to them.
4. What is your dependent variable? What are your main independent variables?
I. How do you conceptualize each variable?
II. How did you operationalize each variable in your survey instrument?
5. Explain what issues of reliability and validity you have to pay attention to in survey
research.
IV. Data Findings and Results (~ 2 pages) (I understand that, based on 10 survey responses, these
results are not generalizable or valid. However, just take this opportunity to practice how you
would report your findings).
[Order Now]
IV. Conclusion (~ ½ page)
1. Reiterate the importance of your proposed study in terms of the impact gathering and
analyzing such data can have.
2. Discuss some limitations of your research.
3. Reflect a little on how this experience of creating, administering, and describing a
survey was for you personally.

Excellent Quality
95-100%
|
Introduction
45-41 points The context and relevance of the issue, as well as a clear description of the study aim, are presented. The history of searches is discussed. |
Literature Support
91-84 points The context and relevance of the issue, as well as a clear description of the study aim, are presented. The history of searches is discussed. |
Methodology
58-53 points With titles for each slide as well as bulleted sections to group relevant information as required, the content is well-organized. Excellent use of typeface, color, images, effects, and so on to improve readability and presenting content. The minimum length criterion of 10 slides/pages is reached. |
Average Score
50-85% |
40-38 points
More depth/information is required for the context and importance, otherwise the study detail will be unclear. There is no search history information supplied. |
83-76 points
There is a review of important theoretical literature, however there is limited integration of research into problem-related ideas. The review is just partly focused and arranged. There is research that both supports and opposes. A summary of the material given is provided. The conclusion may or may not include a biblical integration. |
52-49 points
The content is somewhat ordered, but there is no discernible organization. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on may sometimes distract from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
Poor Quality
0-45% |
37-1 points
The context and/or importance are lacking. There is no search history information supplied. |
75-1 points
There has been an examination of relevant theoretical literature, but still no research concerning problem-related concepts has been synthesized. The review is just somewhat focused and organized. The provided overview of content does not include any supporting or opposing research. The conclusion has no scriptural references. |
48-1 points
There is no logical or apparent organizational structure. There is no discernible logical sequence. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on often detracts from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
