Many organizations have implemented the strategy of designating specific employees to share information about law enforcement activities with the news media, such as the public information officer. For this assignment, imagine you are the public information officer for your police or sheriff’s department. The chief or sheriff has requested that you provide a PowerPoint presentation to the command staff about implementing the proactive strategy for the organization to communicate with the news media and share department activities with the public using social media. Your PowerPoint presentation should document a public information strategy for your law enforcement organization. In your presentation, you should address the following items listed below. Identify and explain what news media outlet(s) and social media source(s) can be used to share positive activity and accomplishments of the law enforcement organization. Include a list of three to five examples for a police activity or programs that can be featured and how the activities and/or programs contribute to building the police-community relationship. Identify guidelines for sharing information when requested by the news media about public safety operations/ investigations.
Your presentation must be formatted according to APA 7th edition guidelines, a minimum of 10 slides, and should include speaker notes. The title and reference slides do not count toward the total 10-slide requirement. You must provide at least two academic sources.
