DB 1
Some of the challenges that managers deal with include employee turnover and employee absenteeism. What do you believe causes employee turnover and absenteeism? As you respond to your classmates, discuss the role that you believe managers should play in addressing these issues.
DB 2
Option One: Attached is an article addressing an Army Unit Commander’s decision to prohibit cell phones while on a deployment to a hostile area. Imagine yourself a Soldier in that unit and tell me how you would feel about that policy. If you are not affiliated with the military then put yourself in the shoes of a Soldier having to leave all electronic devices home and let me know your feelings.
Option Two: Were you ever involved in a situation in which you were prejudged, stereotyped, or discriminated against? This could be something as a child, adult, or in the workplace. It can be something considered minor such as having a comment made to you about your wearing the wrong type of clothes/sneakers or being the last one picked when selecting teams. Please explain the situation and how it made you feel. If it was a workplace incident explain how it impacted your performance and relationships at work.
Option Three: The OUCH test described in Chapter 3 of your textbook is a rule of thumb you should use whenever you are contemplating any employment action. OUCH stands for Objective, Uniform in the application, Consistent in effect, and Has job-relatedness. Offer an example (real or hypothetical) of an employer action taken against an employee that demonstrates a step missing from the OUCH test.
As you respond to your classmates, identify the missing step from the example provided. What employer action should have been taken in that scenario that shows the OUCH test was met?
