This activity focuses on Digitally Extended Realities (DER): extended reality (XR), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). Engineering Technology, Information Systems, and Information Technology based industries utilize these environments to create products and services.
EXAMPLES:
Digital training company CAE recently unveiled a new simulation image generator that uses a gaming engine to display realistic and immersive training environments. The CAE Prodigy image generator can create highly realistic graphics with the Unreal Engine, a gaming engine made by video game and software developer Epic Games.
In MR, digital and real-world objects co-exist and can interact with one another in real-time. Microsoft’s HoloLens is a great example that allows you to place digital objects into the room you are standing in and give you the ability to spin it around or interact with the digital object in any way possible. Companies are exploring ways they can put mixed reality to work to solve problems, support initiatives, and improve their system.
For years, gaming has been driving XR experience development, both in terms of devices and applications. While VR gaming could be considered a niche market, new opportunities promised by augmented reality glasses are seeing more people look forward to immersive gaming. In fact, two thirds of consumers want to try augmented reality gaming and even a third of people who don’t game today.
INVESTIGATION ACTIVITY:
Identify a company that utilizes DER in your major (ET, IS, or IT) or career path.
Explain how DER is utilized in the company identified.
State the skills required for a position in the DER field for the company identified.
Discuss the impact of the DER technology to your major (ET, IS, IT).
Explain the security considerations for the DER technology.

More depth/information is required for the context and importance, otherwise the study detail will be unclear. There is no search history information supplied. |
83-76 points
There is a review of important theoretical literature, however there is limited integration of research into problem-related ideas. The review is just partly focused and arranged. There is research that both supports and opposes. A summary of the material given is provided. The conclusion may or may not include a biblical integration. |
52-49 points
The content is somewhat ordered, but there is no discernible organization. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on may sometimes distract from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |

37-1 points
The context and/or importance are lacking. There is no search history information supplied. |
75-1 points
There has been an examination of relevant theoretical literature, but still no research concerning problem-related concepts has been synthesized. The review is just somewhat focused and organized. The provided overview of content does not include any supporting or opposing research. The conclusion has no scriptural references. |
48-1 points
There is no logical or apparent organizational structure. There is no discernible logical sequence. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on often detracts from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |
