This mini-paper has two different parts. Part I asks you to summarize and reflect on the film you choose to watch, The Normal Heart or Dallas Buyers Club. Part II asks you to write a history of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s in the US.

I have provided some questions for you to consider as you organize your thoughts and your paper. These questions should be used as guiding ideas to frame your essay. Do not just answer the topic questions listed below one by one. You are encouraged to add other issues that you deem important in your essay apart from the questions/issues I have suggested.

Guiding Questions for Part I:

What is the object of the film? In other words, what was the film you choose to watch about?
What are the issues which are at the core of your chosen film?
Who are the two central characters in the film/s and what is their importance in taking the narrative forward?

The first two questions are distinct. The object of the film and a commentary on the film are not the same things. So, keep that in mind when you write the answer.

Guiding Questions for Part II:

How and when did the epidemic?
What were some of the first cases?
Who were the doctors who were ready to see gay AIDS patients?
How many people die in that epidemic?
What was the issue surrounding accessibility to ART drugs for patients?
Why was the drug situation so complicated and expensive in the US that it was hard for needy patients to procure those drugs?
How did the AIDS epidemic pave the way for new biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health)?

Remember you are writing an essay and not necessarily answering a set of questions. The questions I have given are to be treated as a framework for your essay. Paper Requirements

Part I of the mini-paper should be no more than 2 paragraphs. Part II should be between 6 and 8 paragraphs. Both parts should be in 12-point font, double spaced.
Each part should have a titlethat reflects the topic of your essay.
You need to have at least 3 outside sources, 2 from an academic source (journal, presentation, etc.) and 1 from non-academic sources (newspaper, blog, media, etc.)
