Article 37: Overtime Equitable Distribution Of Overtime

The Employer agrees to an equitable distribution of overtime. Overtime will be assigned by work area on a first come first served basis. If no one volunteers for overtime and signs the overtime sheet, overtime will be assigned based on the least senior employee in the rotation. Overtime will be assigned based on employees’ regular work not being completed during regular shifts.
An overtime list will be posted for all employees to see. This list will include a rotation plan based on seniority. Employees with the highest seniority in the job classification needed to perform the overtime work will be offered the assignment first. Should the first employee choose to pass, the chance will be offered to the next employee in the seniority rotation until the opportunities to work overtime are exhausted. If senior employees do not accept overtime assignments, overtime will be assigned as outlined in Section A to the least senior employee(s).
A call log will be maintained by management. Overtime will be offered either to employees in person if they are still on duty, or by phone call if they are no longer on site. Employees who are called in order, based on the seniority lists, will have 30 minutes to return the call or management will call the next person on the list.
Management will be permitted to assist only if there are not enough bargaining unit employees willing to accept the overtime assignments. Should there not be enough volunteers to work overtime, or enough available employees to take mandatory overtime assignments based on Section A, the Union agrees that supervisors/members of management will assist so that the work can be completed.

The Employer agrees that unless it gives written notice, neither it, nor any function, will unilaterally take or permit action that will arbitrarily extend the normal workday without paying overtime or offering compensatory time, where applicable.
Overtime will be monitored for abuse and overuse, along with staffing levels. An overtime shift shall not exceed eight (8) hours, or the equivalent of a standard shift.
