Choose ONE of the passages on the following page for your analysis. In your analysis, you must do the following: Summarize the main idea of the text. In a few sentences, restate in your own words what is the main message of the text or passage. Pose 2 questions about the text that have clear answers within the text itself. Provide your answer based on the text’s content and explain the significance of the question to our understanding of the text. These should be W/H questions: who, what, when, where, and how. E.g., What does the author mean by a specific term? Who is the author arguing with or against? What or when does the author expect a result or response? Where does the author think something should happen? How does the author think the issue should be handled? Posing and answering questions like these may seem somewhat obvious. But only by stating what we know about the text can we come to the important understanding of what we don’t know about it. Pose 2 questions about the text that don’t have clear answers in the text itself. Provide your answers based on your best understanding of the text and its meaning. This time, your questions should dig deeper, beyond what the text itself says on the surface. Focus on “why” questions, but all W/H questions work, too. E.g., Why does the author choose this specific term over another? Why would the author write this down? How would an ancient reader of this text have understood it? Posing questions like these often lead us to thinking about the larger situation of the text. Sometimes we can come up with good answers for these questions, but more often than not, these are the questions that scholars will continue to debate—sometimes endlessly! Secondary Sources: Do not use secondary sources. Logistics: Your paper must be at least 1.5 double-spaced pages, 12 pt font = 400+ words. Submit response as Word document (.doc or .docx) file.

More depth/information is required for the context and importance, otherwise the study detail will be unclear. There is no search history information supplied. |
83-76 points
There is a review of important theoretical literature, however there is limited integration of research into problem-related ideas. The review is just partly focused and arranged. There is research that both supports and opposes. A summary of the material given is provided. The conclusion may or may not include a biblical integration. |
52-49 points
The content is somewhat ordered, but there is no discernible organization. The use of typeface, color, graphics, effects, and so on may sometimes distract from the presenting substance. It is possible that the length criteria will not be reached. |

The context and/or importance are lacking. There is no search history information supplied. |
75-1 points
There has been an examination of relevant theoretical literature, but still no research concerning problem-related concepts has been synthesized. The review is just somewhat focused and organized. The provided overview of content does not include any supporting or opposing research. The conclusion has no scriptural references. |
