Nicole,
Advanced organizers are crucial resources that many if not, all teachers incorporate in their classroom. One can incorporate them weekly in the class. Advanced organizers are defined as ” a tool that professors/teachers can present to students prior to a lecture to help them structure the information they are about to learn” (Cross Academy).
The organizers can be for things students already learned, about to learn, both know and will learn, and more. Some advanced organizers are Venn diagrams, K-W-L charts, expository organizers, and more. One can use a variety of them to teach various standards. For example, for math teachers, one can use expository organizers to teach new vocabulary.
The expository organizers can have two to three columns. The first column will have the words, the second column will have the definitions, and the last column will have examples/pictures. This will help students with keeping their notes organized and make it easier to study. Another organizer that teachers incorporate in their classroom is Venn diagrams.
Students are able to compare and contrast two things. For example, students can find the similarities and differences between adding whole numbers and adding decimals. Students can visually see how they compare and differ. It will allow them to solve problems better because they will understand it more with the guidance of the organizer.
Now, teachers do have to put in some planning time to make it smooth when giving to the students. For teachers who feel as if there is not anytime, one can say to plan better and make it happen. As teachers, we have many hats, but it is possible with time management.
Cordarius,
If a teacher is complaining to me about time to prepared organizers for her students, In the nicest way possible, I would tell her that I understand, and I know the feel too well to not understand. I would offer the teacher some support, and I would tell her how helpful the organizer can be and how the organizer would be a great tool when it comes to her student understanding key information and different concepts.
I would also explain to the reasoning behind why she should invest just a little time in utilizing the organizers. I would give the teacher different ideas on how to implement the organizer and use it as a class discussion piece, or tell her she can let the student compare and explain to each their reasoning for their responses as she observes them.
However, I would not try to make that teacher feel bad, because as teacher it is expected for us to play different roles and wear several different hates in the classroom and even outside of the classroom sometimes depending on the student. Therefore, as a more experienced teacher I would even help her get the organizer done, because I like to be a team player and I would not like to see new teacher or less experienced teacher get overwhelmed with the job.

As an educator, I can understand that there is not enough time in the day to prepare advanced organizers. At the same time, we must make time for things like this to help our students understand the material thoroughly. Advance organizers are essential to a student’s learning when it pertains to class. In my opinion, I believe it adds an extra layer of understanding for the students.
For example, if the teacher creates this organizer and points out the main ideas that each student in the classroom should take away from the chapter, then this can cause less stress for each student because they will have a better understanding of the chapter. Gathering main points helps each student understand the importance of the processes and why these particular things occur in each chapter.
I think that it is very important that educators try to make time to create advanced organizers because it will make learning easier for the students for future assignments. I am certain that it helps with learning because advanced organizers can be utilized to aid students with taking notes. Students can obtain a lot of information by practicing how to write out an organizer because this will help with retaining the material.
Another point that I would like to make is that organizers are very important when it relates to teaching. In order to be an effective teacher, you must be organized. If the student observes how organized you are then they will possibly become more organized.
