Assignment 5 Part 2: The Activity Plan
2022SP M. Brinkley
Introduction:
This assignment is Part 2 of a three-part project, which involves planning for and performing an activity (a puppet show, flannel board, or dramatization a children’s story) in a group setting in a preschool classroom at a licensed child care center.
You will have obtained permission from the director to perform the activity and from the children’s parents to video record them and you will develop an activity plan.
The final step of the project will be your performance of the activity at the child care center. You will record this performance to submit to your instructor.
Project Overview:
The project will be completed in these stages:
Part 1: You have already begun to prepare for an activity to present to a group of children at a licensed child care center. You should have already been given permission to conduct the activity at the child care facility you identified.
You should already have distributed the Video Permission/Releases forms to the child care director for distributions to the parents.
Part 2: You will create an activity plan in which you will describe the activity (puppet show, flannel show, or dramatization) and select the children’s book that will be the subject of your activity.
Part 3: You will perform and record the activity. The video file or a link to the file will be submitted to the instructor.
Assignment: Part 2
This part of the assignment requires you to provide this content to your instructor:
Description of the activity. You must decide now as to whether you will be performing a puppet show, a flannel board show, or a skit.
Children’s story title and author. You will need to select a short children’s story.
Materials needed (puppets, flannel board supplies, costumes, and so on). You will be responsible for making your puppets, costumes, or flannel board characters. If you are not crafty, try visiting your local partnership (Smart Start, Head Start, etc.) to see if you can check out one of their sets. You will need a membership to do this, however.
Procedures to be followed in completing the activity. What steps will you take to prepare for the activity, including writing the script, developing materials or props, and rehearsing, etc.?
Do a few run-throughs with your family and friends. You will be responsible for making your puppets, costumes, or flannel board characters. If you are not crafty, try visiting your local Partnership to see if you can check out one of their sets. You will need a membership to do this, however.
Identification of at least two NC Foundations Developmental Indicators to will be implemented in the activity
The written script for your story
For those doing a puppet show: Label each spoken line of your script by what each character says so you know how to read the lines–using character voices! For example:
Red Riding Hood: “What big eyes you have, grandma!”
The Big Bad Wolf: “The better to see you with, my dear!”
For those doing a skit: As you reread the story you plan to tell, decide which parts of the story will work best for the skit. Pay attention to the roles of the children! You will need to submit a fully written script for your skit.
For those doing a flannel board: Include cues in the script that tell you when to add a character, remove a character, or move a character. You will need to cover the entire story in the cue cards you submit.
At least 10 open-ended evaluation questions to ask the children at the end of the activity
Scanned copies of the completed Video Permission/Release forms from the children’s parents
To Submit for Part 2:
Your activity plan, which should include:
The children’s story title, author(s), and illustrator(s),
The steps or procedures you will follow in completing the activity,
The written script for your story or skit, or
Copies of all Video Permission/Release Forms for each child in the classroom.
