Highsmith, J. A. (2010, Pg. 13) “Agility is the ability to both create and respond to change in order to profit in a turbulent business environment”. The author emphasis is the capability to change and design strategies and implement to address the fast-changing business environment and competition. “Agility is the ability to balance flexibility and stability” (Highsmith, J. A. 2010). Project Managers and great products required exploration, not the following of plan, (Highsmith, J. 2009).
For successful products, conformation is also important to the extent when the innovation part is already saturated, but believing in concepts of continuous improvement and learning is now the requirement of the changing business needs. The fulfillment and value for the customer for the product is an extremely important goal of the project manager. “Having the boldness to find out from uncertainty and anonymous to serve the value-driven goals, that’s what is the main reflection of adaptation part of agile project management, which is unlikely of the traditional project manager to follow the plans only (Highsmith, J. 2009)
Josh, H. (2019) shared in walls street journal with the title of How Culture Drives Digital Transformation. The companies are started moving towards operations into digitalization which starts from e-learning to meetings and training as well. person 2 discussion board;
Based on the readings for this week, what do you see as the Implications of adapting over Conforming?
Traditionally, each project starts with formulating a plan and making the same plan as a final goal whereas an agile management plan is defined and redefined for a number of times until customer value is achieved. In the process of achieving the customer value project’s requirement often backlog and try to adapt to the evolving changes in the process. Based on the readings for this week and understanding the nature of the subject matter itself, the implication of adapting over conforming comes in handy.
Furthermore, when adapting is adapted more, it gives room for adjustment for the personnel involved in it. Looking at the traditional method of project management it is based on taking corrective action which is pre-defined whereas, in agile management, it is more on which action is more applicable in terms of the nature of the project and requirements for achieving customer’s value. Conforming in literal terms, it means to follow a predefined standard, which may be suitable for some business, having said that it is not the only way of approaching any projects in general.
Businesses advancing towards becoming more competitive/ cut throat competition it is necessary for them to be more flexible with the changing environment through the adaptive nature than just following the predefined goals/ plans. For instance, right now in this pandemic particular business or a nation as a whole should not rely on the predefined structured standards because the virus is novel and they need to be agile and adaptive in nature to deal with the pandemic.
Review the front page of your local newspaper or the front page of the business section (online or hard copy). Try to identify at least one “project” that might have had a better outcome/result had it been focused on adapting versus conforming? (You can also use the Wall Street Journal, New York Times or Dallas Business Journal.
For this part of the question, I would like to talk about the topic that is currently dominating the digital market i.e. “ Zoom app”. It is a type of video- conferencing app where multiple people can log in to and hold a meeting, class, etc. Due to the global pandemic, it is a must that everyone maintains social distancing to flatten the curve of their respective area whether it be a city, state, or country as a whole.
Due to which more people are relying upon social media or digital platforms to communicate, hold a meeting, and attend classes obeying the nation’s social distancing practice. For instance, most of the classes need to be face-to-face, but due to the current situation schools are trying to adapt the situation through providing their services through the “ Zoom app” i.e. lectures. According to Shira Ovide, Zoom is easy which is the reason it is dangerous.
In her article, “ Zoom Is Easy. That’s Why It’s Dangerous.” states that nowadays technology has become more user friendly, due to which more people are relying on it. Technology is such that it doesn’t have a certain plan which is the ultimate goal but instead, it is the process of continuous change. This brings to the part of security concern, most of the sites collect data which could be directed towards likely buyers. In terms of the zoom app, even though many people adapted to the situation, and the app itself is just one click away to a meeting or lecture for some people it has become a medium of “ Zoombombing” just like photobombing according to the article. People entering a lecture which he/she doesn’t belong to and making a mess is a reason Zoom needs to adapt to the situation and try to fix and strengthen the security of the app.[Order Now]
