1st Colleague to respond to:
Three of the important technologies and business information systems used within the healthcare organization that I work at include EMR (electronic medical record), Practice management software and healthcare financial systems. EMR is used in place of paper records. It consists of treatment plans, labs, x-rays, medications and patient’s medical history.
The EMR allows physicians, pharmacist and different medical personal access to a patient record without having to go to the medical records department and obtain the paper chart. The EMR system has affected the organization that I currently work for by allowing us to switch from paper charting to computer charting, which saves time, decreases medical errors and gives nurses more time to treat and educate patients.
Another system that is used within our organization is Practice management software. This software is used for scheduling of patients, billing procedures, and submitting claims to insurance. This system affects our organization by allowing our facility to increase efficiency, reliability and productivity.
It increases efficiency at our facility by allowing different department the ability to access and chart or update patient records as needed. Our radiology department can come into an OR, shoot an x-ray and then upload the x-ray so that the surgeon can review it before completing the surgery. This program increases productivity by allowing staff and management to focus on patients and less on paperwork or other things.
Financial Management is another system that involves handling financial operations, such as negotiating contracts, making cash available for expenses such as payroll, and maintaining a cash cushion for unexpected costs (Brumley, 2019). This system gives management the appropriate tools to quickly and efficiently perform payroll weekly as well as track budgeting cost so that we can operate with appropriate supplies for patient safety while being productive as well.
I have learned that business information systems are extremely important for organizations to operate daily. From running payroll, to scheduling patients appropriately and collecting data and records for patients to be shared within the medical profession.
Without these systems in place, healthcare would operate a lot slower, with more mistakes and it would slow down production. With the rapid pace of today’s business world, being successful in a business career requires being able to understand what information is required and being able to efficiently gather, evaluate, and analyze that information ( Belanger, Slyke, & Crossler, 2019).

The organization I work for uses a few types of business information systems, which are: Supply Relationship Management (SRM), Accounting Information System, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. These are vital systems in our daily operations and how we function as an organization because we rely on them for accurate accounting, supply chain, and resource planning information to achieve organizational goals and projects.
The business information systems we use are essential; for example, they help to streamline and improve the organization’s quality of customer service and their business processes. More importantly, the organization uses the business information systems in their day-to-day business decision-making processes.
Without the business information systems, the organization will not be able to gain strategic value and gain a competitive edge in the market (Bélanger, Van Slyke, & Crossler, 2019).
For instance, the way the business information systems effect affect the organization I work is by streamlining business processes for employees, proving financial data for the Comprehensive Accounting Financial Report. For example, the information collected is used as a product for the organization because it shows how the organization achieves its mission.
Another example is the business information systems also provide financial, supplier, and resource information that shows the yearly financial status of the organization, the services it offers to customers, and statistical information. (Bélanger, Van Slyke, & Crossler, 2019).

The SRM system has changed the organization’s business and individual processes, for example, by streamlining the business’s sourcing process to an electronic and e-catalogue process. Moving to an electronic process is a critical factor in how the business efficiently operates and conducts business with customers and managing the organization’s contracts (Campelo F, & Stucky, 2007).
The organization, for example, uses an accounting information system to capture all financial data and also uses the system for its capabilities to provide complete, detailed, and complex information. In addition, the accounting system generates financial statements the organization uses to make critical business decisions (Knežević, Stanković, & Tepavac, 2012).
Furthermore, for example, ERP helps in managing the organization’s business information and application projects to achieve organizational goals so they can service their customers better (Mekadmi, & Louati, 2019).
When incorporating the business information systems, the lessons to be learned from any issues the organization encounters, for example, is how the information can help employees to interpret good and bad data. Another example is how to use the knowledge gained effectively in applying the information and learning from the issues by using our wisdom to ethically make better judgment and good decisions at all times (Bélanger, Van Slyke, & Crossler, 2019).
